Sure, pick anyone of the commercial satellite internet service providers.

Sniff a user's internet connection -- Think of it as eavesdropping on a conversation until one of the parties in the conversation relates the information you were waiting for, say a credit card number and pin information -- but in this case, you've configured a computer to listen to that user's internet connections and wait to collect the connection account and passwords. You don't even have to be there while it does it.

Once you have the information you could sit outside their house and piggy back on their signal, or take it for a ride.

OR hack the company database for customer accounts and passwords -- or buy that from some black hat source on the web, steal one of their connection boxes, or build one of your own and use it anywhere they have service.

All of which, of course, is illegal, theft of services, shame on you stuff.

But PLEASE don't call your thief a hacker.

That's not hacking; it's just theft.

You got good advice already, but if you could be a bit specific regarding what you mean by hijack, you might get more.

I mean, do you want to inject data into an ongoing transfer session, or do you mean "use someone elses account"?

What Medi said. Sort of. See, it is incorrect to call that kind of action "hacking". And it bugs the heck out of some of us in the industry. But, from a character's knowledge POV... Dunno.

ETA to explain: a guy who listened in on your phone call until you told your kid the PIN number for your ATM card, then mugged your kid for the card and used it-- he committed a number of crimes, but hacking wasn't one of them.

Well, that used to be true, but the meaning of that word has changed over the last two decades. Nowadays it means computer intrusion and computer security bypassing in addition to being slang for competence with computers.

It's like phone versus cell phone versus pda versus small computer with a camera. They're all phones now.

True, but harping on it might make you sound like you are about to berate the young whippersnappers for using the term flash drive when "drive" clearly only applies to computer storage with motors in them, and wax wroth on the topic of why SSD-drives are neither motorized, nor contain discs.
