I noticed we had needlesculpting, crocheting and knitting threads, etc., but didn't see anything about needlecraft in general (unless I missed it; is there an embroidery or a sewing thread?). So, I thought I'd start one.

I design and make some plushies ("sofities" in British English) for fun, others to sell and still more as gifts. I'll put up a link when the website is ready.

Does anyone else do something similar?

Take care,
Snitch.

P.S., if there is an existing more suitable thread, please could a mod merge this one with that thread? Many thanks!

I have a friend who makes animal softies from socks. I have to admit some of them make me smile.

I came across an older book that had instructions on how to make some interesting plushie-type animals (made from felt). What intrigued me most about their design were the suggestions on embroidery for decoration. They aren't the normally cute and squishy-soft kinds of plushie-type animals and have already pulled my supplies together to give making one a whirl. What I'm most excited about is the embroidery part of the animals.

I've designed and made some stuffed toys and puppets. I recreated the Fraggles for one of my children, when Fraggle Rock toys were unavailable.

Mainly I design and sew clothing and costumes. I've also studied historical needle arts, but I don't practice them much.

I haven't done much sewing in the past few years (made some clothes for myself before that). But I did get one commission to make a custom giant plushie. This dragon is slightly over 6 ft long from tail to nose when laid out flat. He took a bit over two months to make (I'm slow, lol).

I've been doing embroidery, cross-stitch, and general sewing for over 20 years now, since I was eight or nine years old. My favorite cross-stitch designs are of animals, and I plan on cross-stitching various animals on my own wedding canopy. Right now I'm working on a design of two kittens tangled up in two balls of yarn with knitting needles.

I missed this thread when it was started.

I make one-of-a-kind items. Skirts and scarves mostly but I've also cobbled together a few odd items like a steam locomotive softie. I don't use commercial patterns, usually, just fit bits of scrap cloth together to make a pattern.

I especially like hand-embroidering my own artwork. Seldom ever do the same thing twice. Some of my designs are up in the "My Latest Project" thread.

That is the most epic thing I have seen in forever.... I would sleep with this beast, held tight in my arms.

I've put some up in the "My Latest Projects" thread, and will likely be adding another one I've just completed later today.

Finally started another of my projects -- it's one for Hallowe'en. Early, yes, but why rush? (^_^)

Oh, Bard, I checked out the "My Latest Projects" thread; very nice!

I haven't done needlesculpting in AGES. Need to treat myself to some fabric and make something. That dragon is just gorgeous!

I do a fair amount of embroidery and knitting, but all the projects I'm working on seem to be taking SOOO LONG to finish.

Lord but this is gonna show my age.
My grandmother taught me how to knit and crochet back in the 40's. A few years ago, I got busy crocheting afghans to keep from being too bored with what was on TV.
Then, for some strange reason, I got caught up in Crewel.

One is frames and sits on the shelf above my computer so I can occasionally look up and pat myself on the back.

Now, this darned computer keeps me so busy there's no time for anything else.
