So. Just wanted to get clear on what reputation is intended for.

If a thread has been closed, is it then okay to use the reputation feature to continue a discussion with someone after the fact? I would have thought that would be more for PM.

And if not, and someone does, is it possible to delete reputation points added to your profile by someone who has used it for the wrong thing? Or do you have to leave it there for good?

1. Does no one read my exquisite Reptutation FAQ? The one I slaved over for hours in a hot kitchen up hill both ways in the snow?

2. Reputation comments are there for short comments; you might use a PM to continue a discussion. That said the other person may not wish to continue the discussion.

3. Neither Reputation comments nor PMs are to be used to harass members.

4. MacAllister can delete hostile reputation comments; just let her know. If she's not available, and it's really bothering you, let me know, and I'll take care of it.

I was informed that people have carried on conversations in rep points, but I had the impression it was brief comments only, such as we sometimes see in some of the more informal threads.

Given that there's a character limit, it has to be brief comments, but yes, some members do carry on conversations in and around threads via Reputation comments; that said, if a member feels uncomfortable and asks another member to stop--

Stop.

"Oh, the humanity!"

Neither Reputation comments nor PMs are to be used to harass members.

The ability to leave a "negative" comment, one that subtracts points, has been turned off, because a few members[SUP]*[/SUP] abused the privilege.

Like Art Carlson, station manager of WKRP in Cinncinati, who swore, "As God is my witness, I thought Thanksgiving turkeys could fly," I swear that's what I once thought negative reps were for.

[SUP]*[/SUP]Mia culpa for being one of the few, the deluded, the abusive. I'll gladly do community service.

*Raises hand*

I have lots of ongoing rep conversations. I prefer reps to PMs, simply because I'm lazy about deleting my PMs and there's a space limit. ;)

That said, if anyone needs/wants to PM me, you're certainly free to do so!

Usually if somebody leaves a rep point for me with a question or urging me to respond back, I send a PM after that. Easier, no character limit, and feels more personal.

Heh. Chase, I'm pretty sure you weren't ever one of the members who went on weeks-long poison-pen sprees, leaving dozens of neg-reps every day, for multiple members. I'm pretty sure I'd remember if you had been.

Kind of sweeet, though, that they can't argue without adding to your rep. Wish life was like that.

Where would we be without those lovely rep points? I liked it though, when I was better than chocolate or something. If I had of realised about the negative ones, I could have enticed negative reps to ensure that I remained tasty :D

Perhaps now it's simply a matter of that going without saying?

Susie, you are the most lovable, huggable, sweetest thing to come out of the States. I'd bet a $1000 that no one ever considered nor would they have dared to give you a negative rep.

I had no idea that reputation points existed here, so thanks BunnyMaz for the thread and thanks Medievalist for your exquisite Reputation FAQ, which was indeed exquisite. Apparently, I have points, and comments, and now I feel bad because I totally ignored all those people.

Sorry mccardey, but that surely has to be my husband. I really don't want to get into a fight with you, but it's him. And maybe suzie too. And maybe Cooy as well. And you perhaps? Have to add my pal PinkAmy. Hmmm, and possibly my cat...

A round of good, happy rep points for all. Zero negative reps.
