Would it be lidocaine? I just need to know the most common one that would be given when getting stitches in your hand.
Thanks in Advance!!

I'm 99% sure it's lidocaine. I've had minor surgery (mole removal) with a local only and they used lidocaine. I assume it would be the same thing for stitches. Then again, they might not use anything. My husband had stitches in his hand after a car accident, but his hand was completely numb from the trauma, so he didn't need any kind of anesthetic.

Twenty years or so ago, it was commonly novacaine, which seems to have been replaced by lidocaine. So the timing of your story might also have an effect on which one it should be. Of course, many years ago (about 55), I had stitches in my toe and the only thing used was iodine/merthiolate - not sure which but it hurt! Puma
