I may be having an interview with Build-a-bear soon!

I've already come up with phrases to say when/if I have to kick unruly customers out if I get the job.

"You just built yourself a ban!"

What in the world is a Build-a-Bear?

Attach an arm to the torso, leave off the claws; attach unruly customers to jaws, tighten as required....?

Well, good luck. Sell the heck out of those bears. You know people that buy bears are fanatics. Sell them two! Recommend them for all the people on their gift giving list.

Go get 'em Bear....grrrr....

Build-a-bear is on a hiring freeze and Chuck E Cheese lost my applicaiton.

CEC did, however, tell me to come tomorrow and fill out a new application as well as get an interview.

They enerally don't grant an inteview unless they're hiringl do they?

(pS, Sorry for bad typing, my screen goes crazy when i type on this thing)

Now there's a plot twist I'll want to hear more about. The imagination reels.

NG, I hope it's as weird as it sounds.

Cheering you all on!
Build-a-bear is a fun store, but I don't know if I could handle being there all the time. It would be fun to get to be the one who stuffs the bear & gives the kids the hearts & makes them do funny stuff to give it a heart beat & make a wish. And I love the little clothes for the bears. But it must get old after a while, & I've seen the chaos of a child's party being there. Working it would be a little much for me (but I'm not a social person).

Anyway, good luck, nachonaco

Build-a-Bear is great. My wife spends hundreds of dollars there annually.

We recently built out an Monkey as an LA Dodger, and named it after our current first baseman, who of course subsequently got traded.

Still, Hee Sop Bananas is a beloved part of our family.

I am, however, working at McDonalds!

My 17 year old daughter works at McDonalds, too!

It's a good job for a kid without bills.

I have noticed how their pay varies drastically from town to town.

My daughter makes $6.20 per hour - but 20 miles down the coast they pay $8 per hour. 30 miles to Hattiesburg - they pay only $6 per hour.

Interesting.

Just like every business, McDonalds pays what they feel is a fair and competitive wage. If they are in a place where all the wages are much higher, they have to pay higher to get employees.

Yeah - well - I mentioned that my 17 year old works at McDonalds?

That's soon to be history because her manager just gave her a completely unmanageable schedule.

She's expected to work two afternoons this week - before she even gets out of school..............and has to close on a schoolnight.

My daughter needs to study, not serve the needs of McDonalds until the wee hours of the morning. Her manager knows she's in HS.

Also - I drive her back and forth to work - 5 miles each way. (we live in the country.)

This weekend - she's working at 7 AM both today and tomorrow - and I am not doing that all year, either.

So, Mcdonalds is soon to be history.

I don't think I'm even going to allow her to give a proper notice.

el - My McD's is poorly run too - Do I work with your daughter? LOL!

Worker runaround is normal....

My first few days, I wasn't on schedule, so they had me CALL IN to see if I was needed. They even had me come in and two minutes later send me home!

Things will get better for her.

I feel your pain. I worked in retail through high school and the schedule was often unreasonable. Finally, I ended up having to quit and only work on the summers, but I knew lots of kids who blew off school in favor of the job.

Stay with the school. McD is fine to give you some income, but the education helps you get the job you want in the future. Just don't let the parttime job get in the way of your schooling (home or traditional, whichever one you do it is still school and a schedule is important :)

Good luck :)

My daughter has been working at the McD's for over 5 months, but todays probably her last day.

I refuse to have my life controlled by it. And, she needs to study.

it would be at least polite to give notice - she'll be screwing over the OTHER employees by just not showing up for her next shift. The manager won't care, but the poor girl/guy who has to work a double might harbor a bit of resentment.

and it's never a good idea to burn bridges in the employment world. If she ever needs to use them as a work reference in the future, they'll have it on record that she just walked out.

not a good start to your work record.

She put in her two weeks notice today.

And, the only reason is because she might want to work there again sometime in the future. McDonalds can't keep employees, and there are two obvious reasons why:

1. Low wages.
2. Horrible hours - open by 6 AM and closed by 1 AM.

If they want reliable, adult employees - they need to pay a better wage. As long as they pay $6 an hour - scheduling problems will always be.

That place goes through employees like we go through paper towels.

One girl was hired - worked two days and her mom made her quit. Then, they hired her again and her mom stood in the lobby for 3 hours - counting how many black people were standing around outside the restaurant/gas station - and in the lobby. After 3 hours, the mother decided the number was too high and ordered her daughter to abandon her position and leave with her.

True story.
