How wonderful is that? (Very, of course.) May he or she grow up to be everything you and your wife dream today--happy, healthy, intelligent, thoughtful, and kind.

(Three out of the five still produces a pretty decent human.)

Maryn, who doesn't really want another baby, but still...

I bugged Rob (Mr. Poet) to tell me the particulars--

It's a boy, named Finn Daniel. I'll let him tell the rest whenever he finds the time to log back on. He said wife and family are doing well.

Congrats again, Rob!

Rob, Finn is a very lucky youngster, and not simply due to his parents' audacious naming strategy. May he one day get drunk at a party, stand up and declare 'shampoo for my real friends and poo for my sham friends' and be given a standing ovation.

ah, to be three days old again...

Wow, what a breath-taking baby!

Sorry, couldn't resist the Seinfeld nod.

Seriously, once you get past the hooves and jaundiced eyes and the spooky chanting that follows him wherever he goes, he really is quite...breath-taking.

Congratulations, Poetinahat! Neew babies are them ost fascinating beings on earth; I look at them and am filled with awe. What a blessing.

Here, now, is my favourite poem on children:

On Children

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Kahlil Gibran, the Prophet

Congratulations, Rob!!! It's a boy! It's a boy! So is he a Libra or a Scorpio? I hope it's a Libra, because they're the cutest, perfect babies. Bwhahahahaha!

Gobsmacked.

I am well and truly stunned, and quite moved, by your posts. I've only seen it just now (thanks, Susie!), and I hope I haven't alienated you all by not replying. I just didn't know!

The boy's name is, in fact, Finn Daniel. His older sister Aisling has been a wonder, and mum is an absolute marvel (as well as being my soulmate and quite the hot number).

I've posted a photo or two here (http://mccreerys.blogspot.com/), for those who like a baby photo or happy snaps.

What a vibrant community this is; what wonderful people you are. I'm happy I bumbled into this place, drawn by a dear friend.

Again, my thanks to all of you.

Fondly,

Rob

I hope I'm not being too creepy, saving pictures of someone else's kids on my computer. But I had to have several of those (two because they look like our daughter at the same age). I promise to use them only for forces of good!

Maryn, who will babysit if you'll provide transportation

P.S. Babyccino is worthy of publication, IMO--it's not a great shot because she's yours and wonderful. It's just a great shot!
