I met Debbie Mack at an author event a year ago. We were both selling and signing books. She'd told me her story of being picked up by a small publisher only for that publisher to fold before her book released. Not discouraged, she just published it herself. Now a year later, her hard work paid off, as an Indie Author on the New York times Best Seller's list.
Yes, she worked hard at it. Did some awesome marketing stuff that cost her nothing but sweat equity (because let's face it, success means you write a good book, and work for it), and kicked out another book in the process.
