View Full Version : Finished draft 1!

Ten days and 45,000 words later, draft one of my untitled YA time travel thriller is done! :hooray:

I really wanted a word count closer to 60k, but I realised about halfway through that I didn't have enough story to get anywhere near that mark. Hopefully agents won't hold such a small word length against me!

Premise: a teenage girl gets in over her head when she 'borrows' her dad's time machine in order to exploit compound interest.

Can't wait to get to revising this thing! Whooo!

CGs! Have some chocolate and booze, then back to work!

(If you possibly can add some words (meaty ones, not filler), I think you should. 45,000 is more an MG than a YA length.)

congrats! Regarding word count, while 45k is not unheard of for YA, it's definitely on the shorter end. You would be able to get away with it easier if it was YA contemporary, but speculative YA tends to be a bit longer, so I'd second Phaeal's suggestion. If at all possible, try to add some words.

Huzzah! (& maybe it will get longer on the rewrite...)

Thanks for the support folks--definitely hoping to add some meat in the rewrites!
