So today I received an e-mail from a publication letting me know that my new short story "Cycles" will be published on June 16th for the Absent Willow Review. This is the first time I've submitted a piece for publication and I''ve never been more surprised =) I practically ran around my house screaming haha

When did you first receive an acceptance letter? How did you react?

Congrats!

I had my first acceptance by paper. I was totally surprised, to be honest, and then called up a friend to see what I was supposed to do next. lol

Awesome stuff, Damian! :hooray:

My first acceptance was via email. Fairly simple letter. I read it twice to make sure i hadn't misread, then grinned like a maniac for the next hour.

Congrats! It's an exciting feeling. And on your first submission too!

My first acceptance made me feel like all the effort was worth it.

Congratulations and way to go! (-:

I got my first acceptance via email. It was one of those submission processes where there were "rounds", so I knew I'd gotten past the initial screening, but it was still quite a surprise.

I don't know that it felt at all real until I got to hold the printed issue in my hand. Realizing someone actually made *art* for my story was mindblowing. It's still a total kick, and I hope the ridiculous need to jump up and down and make a fool out of myself over a sale never wears off. (-:

Congratulations.

My first acceptance was strange (no surprises there) As soon as they accepted, I wrote back and asked if I could send a proposal for a three book deal. They said yes, and then they said yes.

I've been editing for two weeks now :)

Congrats!

Mine was via email. I was in ecstasy, but refrained from telling anyone until it was actually published.

CGs! I still have my first acceptance letter, tied up in a black ribbon as befits the genre. ;)

Congratulations!

I confess I was quite calm about my first acceptance, for a piece of flash fiction in an e-anthology. The editor had already posted on his blog that he was particularly looking for short, lighter pieces to balance all the long, serious SF stories he was receiving, and I'd had some very positive feedback from (published) beta-readers, so I felt pretty confident he would buy it.

OTOH, getting my first novel acceptance recently was far more exciting. I'm still pinching myself!

Congrats. Damian! My first acceptance was from Absent Willow Review also. I was thrilled, especially since it was for the very first story I wrote (though it took several months and a few rejections before it found a home). Strangely, it did not end up being my first published credit. Another story, which was accepted a few days later, was released before that one (by Every Day Fiction).

I was so excited, I don;t think I wrote anything for several days afterward. Sounds counter-intuitive, but I've since talked to other authors who gave themselves "vacations" after hitting a big milestone (first sale, first SFWA sale, etc.) All of them have since learned that they need to press on - so do not take a break if you can help it and continue to write. Now that you've placed that story, you need to build your inventory levels back up! :)

Way2go 'n congrats, Damian. Calls for :Cake:! :D My first acceptance was from Modern Romances for $25 and I was so stunned I don't think I did react. Just sat there kind of numb. After that, though, I did a :snoopy: dance. :D
