Hi folks,

Odd thread title, I know, but it's both exactly what it says and probably not what you're thinking. I don't have any published books or ARCs or anything to donate for auctions to help support the relief effort in Japan, and I already gave what loose money I could. What I have is a pretty good supply of pressed pennies.

So I'm selling them--at their regular price of $10 for a set of three coins--and donating the $10 to Direct Relief for Japan. The $1 S&H will cover my listing fees and the mailing.

This is a lovely idea, Clovia! We just sent most of our discretionary funds to a children's relief group, but I'm gonna sticky this thread so it's easy to find later, too.

It's sounding like people there are going to be needing help for a while.

If you prefer not to register at Etsy, I'll be pleased to do a paypal transaction through my website's email address.

(If you have a paypal account, you can tranfer money directly to someone else through their email.)

Paypal just makes it easier for me, so I have all the monies in the same account, and can just pour it directly into the donate button.

Thanks for the question.

If the $10 pricepoint is a problem, I can offer single-coin necklaces on rattail cord for $5 apiece, too. One penny of your choice, drilled at the top, and whatever color/length of rattail cord you like (I have lots of colors.)

marking for hopefully a later buy if you don't sell out and if I can get them. They look really cool. I collect pressed pennies and my local Christian radio station is doing nada for Japan which made me upset to the extreme as they went weeks raising money for Haiti.

Don't worry--I have lots. I ordered a big first roll back when I designed them. If by some miracle I happen to run low, I'll post here, and people can rep me to put some aside for later.

I've donated $1,500 already, but I like this idea quite a bit.

A small pile of storycards waiting to be folded. These have a little about each design inside.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me about how to promote this better?

I'm on twitter, but people are getting tired of retweeting, I think. There's a ton of stuff for disaster relief on Etsy, so mine doesn't stand out. My website gets zero traffic, and I'm not on facebook.

What do you think?

Just got mine in the mail tonight!! The designs are so pretty, and they really stand out on the pennies :) I'm thinking they'd look really cool in a shadowbox of some sort, or a deep frame on a black background. Have the perfect place in mind...

Thanks, Clovia!!

I just noticed this noble thread.

I live 93 miles south of the nuclear plant on the news. I gathered up and delivered baby formula, diapers and water into the heavily damaged areas just north 45 minutes north of me soon after the area, but ran out of gasoline to make any more trips, We won't be getting gas for another week or so.

Every day, the TV is filled with excruciating stories of people searching for wives, husbands, siblings and children. Just a few minutes ago, I watched a ceremony held in a junior high school that's being used as a shelter. The people moved their belongings over to make space so the the kids could have their little graduation ceremony. The school year runs from April to March in Japan.

I watched a father accept the certificate for his son who died in the tsunami. He held the boys photograph and fought hard to accept it with dignity. I lost mine. I'm a grizzly, fifty-something curmudgeon, and I have tears in my eyes from watching.

There are over 20,000 people gone, each one a story. Hundreds of thousands of families lost everything - they're homeless.

Thanks you for the effort you've put into this.
