Hi!

{I didn't know what to write, so I wrote a lot. Oops... There are a bilion and two smilies, but no blushy-face? What is this?!}

I came across this site because I was looking for someplace "safe" to post my writing for critique. I picked here because the forum to post your work is password-protected. (Here's to racking up those 50 posts somewhat quickly!)

I'm a 22-year-old undergrad, political science major, with an expected graduation date of Please God, Make It Soon. Grad school is in the near future. I work part-time at two jobs.

Writing-wise: I have a natural gift for writing - I state this because I'm sort of ashamed about it, to be honest. When I picture someone who says they're an amateur writer I picture a teenager with a Livejournal full of bad fan-fiction. (There may have been some bad experiences involved here.) I'm not trying to write the next Lord of the Rings or, God help me, Twilight. I don't think I'm all that. Writing comes naturally to me. I don't write for other people - I rarely share my work and hate doing so. But I've heard it enough times from enough people that I sort of have to sigh and admit that all right, I not only love to write, but I write well. I write so well that I really must stop being a pansy and seriously pursue publication, and stop thinking that wanting to do so makes me arrogant.
I'm currently churning out a realistic fiction novel that I would like to call a "psychological thriller," but I'm not terribly sure what that term means. It's probably a "psychological novel," though again, bit shaky on the definition. It focuses on the metamorphosis of the mentally ill main character as she works her way to wellness. There's an affair with a married man, a missing person case, point-of-view changes, action-packed drama!!, and some poetry sprinkled throughout.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

God, I hate being a n00b.

Good, because I hate n00bs--

No, wait. I'm not supposed to say that. Here.

Welcome! :welcome:

(And do be aware that while you are very welcome to share your work here, critiquers will be honest! If you want "soft" critiques to begin with, do state that up front. Otherwise you might end up crying and flouncing, and flouncers are even worse than n00bs...)

Oh hell no, I'm not like that. I like harsh critiques - I always have the problem of people being too nice. "That was good, I really liked it." Yeah... that doesn't help me at all. As long as folks aren't out-and-out mean (and I'm sure y'all are not), I'm fine with it. It's rarely something I haven't noticed myself, anyway.

Greetings and welcome to the watercooler :welcome:

Take a wander around the various forums, there's lots to see and lots to learn, and even some fun threads too. Come along and pop on over to the Newbie Pub (at the top of the Newbie forum) and say hi, there's plenty of friendly faces that you can chat with and lots of banter. There's also the Question of the Day threads at the top of the Newbie forum where you can answer random questions.

Don't forget to read the newbie guide, and if you want to know what all the buttons mean check out this thread.
