View Full Version : Sprung from the Castle!

I just spent 8 hours (from 10pm last night to 6am this morning) in a 19th century castle!

Fun, wow!

Myself and 5 other playwrights were 'locked' in over night. We were given a theme and actor/actress photos...put into the rooms in which we were to set our plays and told to write!

At 6am this morning, after we were freed, the actors and directors got locked in to rehearse. All six plays will be performed tonight at a gala event in front of a sold out audience.

The coolest part is that the audience moves around the castle to see the plays in the rooms in which they were written.

The audience and a jury will pick their favourite play...and it will be developed into a full length play.

I went with a comedy. I feel really good about it...but it's not, in my opinion, developable. It won't win...as there really is no way to further develop it...but I think it will be funny...and hopefully entertaining!

I had a blast. Can't wait for the performances TONIGHT!

Instant writing...to stage. My favourite kind!

This sounds like the coolest event ever! Both from the POV of writer and audience. I wish I were close enough to come and watch.

Good luck tonight! And have a BLAST!!

Thanks, both! Caro...it really is truly amazing. When I go on the Friday evening, I kind of forget that I had anything to do with it...I have so much fun seeing all the other plays, and walking around the castle...and seeing the audience enjoy themselves. It's the favourite part of my year! I've been blessed to be able to do it 3 times now!

CGs on the instaplay and good luck with the production! This is the opposite of Spiderman: Take Back the Dark. ;)

Um, or do you have people swinging from the rafters???

I would like to be locked in the castle for several months while I finish current novel and start the next. Bread and water are fine, so long as I have a good Internet connection.

Thank you, thank you!

I'm on my way to the castle now to have dinner with the cast, directors, organizers and other writers! The doors open at 6:30 and the plays start at 7:30!

Thanks all. The performance of my play went amazingly! The actors were superb! They got it word for word, nuance for nuance. Amazingly talented actors. The audience were rolling in the aisles with laughter! It was so great to see people near tears with laughter! Amazing.

For anyone interested in reading my play, it's up on my blog. I wrote it in an hour and a half...and then edited/tweaked it for about 4 hours or so.

THE SPEECH (http://kevintcraig.wordpress.com/2011/03/19/the-speech-a-10-minute-comedic-play/)

I don't know if the FUNNY translates well on the page, but I had amazing actors who made it absolutely HILARIOUS!
