Great article! And, going through my toughest time in life so far, just what I needed to read. I've been really hard on myself lately about my productivity and the quality of what I'm writing. (Even though I know rationally that it's not THAT bad.) I need to give myself more freedom to deal with the crap and let it shape me.

Isn't it comforting to read that others feel the same way?

I've been through much the same, although it didn't stop me writing fiction, only made me take it more seriously. Probably because it made me more truly aware of my own mortality.

I think I'm a much better writer for having gone through the wringer...
