Knitters: What's on your needles Wednesday!

I've just finished a sweater for hubby and the next thing, I haven't decided what yet, is going to be for me.

Pretty!! I've got the Valentine's Day scarf I was making from Crazy Aunt Purl almost ready to be bound off.

And I've got another thick brown scarf I was doing on my 35 needles from some sparkly brown yarn bee yarn I got at the Hobby Lobby (so glad they don't have a store by me. I'd be penniless). But the two strands got so tangled I may need to cut and cast on again.

That reminds me of a big black cat I knitted for halloween many years ago I still have it around somewhere.

I'm a few rows into a new washcloth I'm excited about it, but to do it properly I have to learn how to purl and the instructions I've found so far on Google are just confusing me...I thought this was supposed to be easy!

It's basically the same as knit but on the front of the stitch, the side nearest to you, rather than the back.

I'm just finishing my mom's waistcoat. I finished a blanket for a hospital in Adis Ababa. And then I have to finish a jumper for me.

I'm trying to learn stranded knitting. Got a really cute fingerless glove pattern working in the round on DPN. I made one glove... and then failed to finish it properly and it came apart. I am now starting over, having converted the pattern to work in the flat instead.

there's no seaming with dpn's either so im confused why you would think that. and unles she wants to learn magic looping you can't knit gloves on a circular.

I'm working on a scarf for a friend's husband while waiting for yarn to arrive for the friend's scarf, cashmere blend, and for teh friend's two little girls, a colour blend like noro, all from knitpicks. I order a lot of yarn from knitpics. it allows me to work in alpaca blends and cashmere blends without breaking the bank. I've done several projects now with their yarn and I've been really impressed.

Ahaaaa... magic looping is horrible I have tried it and will never go back!

Honestly the DPNs weren't that bad - just annoyingly slow since I'm not used to them!

really nice, missmachiato. they look good. As for the Noro, it has some material in it, liek little bits of twig and stuff, part of its charm. What really ticked me off though was that in the 8 skeins i used, 7 of them had tons of knots and the colourway was completely lost. I spend a lot of money on that yarn and didnt get half the colours out of it. Which is why i'm using the knitpick version this time.

I tried magiclooping once. totally did it wrong but it kind of worked. Someone at work knits two socks at the same time on two circulars kind of intertwined. It looked like evil magiclooping-inspired evilness. thank god i have never had any desire to knit socks.

Except I've got a nice, variegated green for the white parts. My biggest problem knitting it at the moment is that the piece comes up so tight and lacking flex, whereas I can see on the pictures for the pattern the gloves are much comfier than that.

I've always wanted to learn how to knit... this is an interesting thread to me.

you should totlly try it! there's so many tutorials on youtube etc for starting stitches, and if you join ravelry, there's loads of free patterns on there!

bunnyMaz, it sounds like you're carrying your yarn too tight along the back. it should not be strung tightly but loop down ever so slightly. also try twisting the yarn being carried every two or three stitches with the working yarn. dont pull it tight but let it rest lightly. always twist it the same way, carrying yarn over working yarn and your yarns wont tangle. I just did a hat which used both intarsia and fair isle and it worked our really well as long as i remembered to not pull the carrying yarn too tight.

woohoo i just got my latest knitpick yarns in for my next projects, including their new Chroma, their take on Noro. It's 70% wool and 30% nylon. OMG I love this yarn. It's super soft, knits up beautifully. I got a super bright colour scheme called Lollipop as it's for scarves for a 5 yr old girl and an 8 yr old girl, both of them frou frou princesses. It's like knitting cotton candy. I'm totally in love. I love yarn. lol

What's magic loop?


I often cheat with DPN. I start out flat and then DPN. Casting on DPN is an absolute mare....

Knitpicks has some great yarn!!!! I adore their Suri dream. I'm planning on making a beaded shawl out of the turquoise.
