From all accounts, I don't believe he is running for President this year. There are a couple of things preventing this. One is he is still in his contract for Fox News. Two, he is planning an announcement by the end of the summer. That is a strong sign that he is not running.

The list of GOP hopefuls is mostly dreadful.

Huckabee? Palin? Newt? Who needs any of those? Dragging in a governor like Daniels or Christie would be a mistake as well.

Who else does that leave - Romney?

Let's see. People who are potentially running for Republicans.

Herman Cain - Campaign in Progress

Donald Trump - Announces in the beginning of Summer June maybe?

Mike Romney - Waiting on Announcement and Timeline

People Not Running

Huckabee, Palin, and a few others that I can't remember at the moment.

Agorism FTW!
Did you mean Mitch Daniels, Matt? He or Christie would be better than the current crop of hopefuls. At least they've got some executive experience. I think Christie will wait until 2016, but Daniels will take a shot at it this time around.

As for Huckabee, can everyone spell "Theocracy?" :(

Now you know how we democrats felt the year Michael Dukakis ran.

Christie has repeatedly and directly said he is absolutely not running. I think he believes his chances in 2016 would be a lot better, and i think he's right.

Huckabee's decision depends entirely on whether he can raise the necessary money and get financial backing, imo.

I am not an Obama supporter, but I haven't seen a Republican that catches my interest. Huckabee, Palin, Newt hold no interest for me. Romney has the Mass. health care problem.
Best chance is one of the Governors.
Only 3 Senators and 1 House member has gone directly to the Presidency. Not sure of the number but I think more Governors have moved into the White House.

Who will it be next year? I'm still waiting.

What is it with you people, do we have to knock you on the noggins to get it through your heads that Obama is a Indonesian communist Muslim radial Kenyan....

He's black for God's sake, shouldn't that be an obvious CLUE.

He's revered in the Mid East as the second coming.

He's Black.

He's a socialist.

He's not even close to being white.

He's Black.

...and totally Un - American.....

Oh, sorry I was dreaming for a moment that I got caught in the middle of a Tea Party strategy meeting for 2012... What was the question????

He made a mistake and meant Indonesia.

We've had other threads where we've discussed mistakes made by republicans and democrats.

Don't know why we still talk about them and have thread dedicated to them.

"he CLAIMED that he was born in Kenya!"

Christie won't run 2016. Palin might run then too. I still don't think Huckabee will run at all.

I do expect someone to come out of right field though probably a Governor for this year. I don't think they will be found on any straw poles yet.

I also expect by June the Republican candidates will start coming out of the Wood work.

No, he didn't. He mentioned Kenya to make the specific point about Obama's views on Britain. Indonesia never belonged to Britain; Kenya did. His comment would make even less sense if he actually did intend "Indonesia".
Yes, he did. He obviously made a mistake, one that he may have been holding onto for some time. So, given that he was confused here, it's not surprising that he's making no sense.

The bolded, at least, is in no dispute.

Huckabee, quoted in the article:

I would love to know more - what I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya - his view of the Brits, for example, very different from the average American. When he gave the bust back to [of Winston Churchill] -- of Winston Churchill, yeah. A great insult to the British, but if you think about it - his perspective growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and granfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution is very different from ours, because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.
That doesn't work as a "slip of the tongue" misstatement: "Kenya" -- oops -- meant "Indonesia".

Gee, the cynic in me might even opine that he belabors "Kenya" on purpose, just to feed the birthers some raw meat, even though he denies agreeing with them. But, hey, benefit of the doubt, right?

But the rest IS in dispute? How?

Christ blacbird, there's no "Obama grew up in Kenya" meme out there. Clearly, Huckabee misspoke. He wasn't offering some new theory. A rather laughable and pathetic mistake, but still a mistake.

Pawlenty is being awfully quiet right now. He's gotta start making some noise. Otherwise, we are going to be staring at Trump ads (shutters).

I wonder if Jeb Bush is going to throw his hat in at some point.

Mike Huckabee now claims Obama grew up in Kenya:

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/03/01/6163302-huckabee-claims-obama-grew-up-in-kenya

He must be immune to embarrassment, as well as factual reality. Or is channeling Palin, or on something.

YOU didn't address those areas you are now CLAIMING to be concerned with.

Your main point of contention is that Huckabee is CLAIMING that Obama grew up in Kenya and is immune to embarassment as well as reality.

"OBAMA CLAIMED HIS UNCLE LIBERATED AUSCHWITZ!"

He must be immune to embarassment as well as factual reality!!

Frankly, who really cares what Huckabee says about Obama's background. He is not running. He hasn't broken his contract with Fox which would indicate that he is running. Furthermore, he said he would make the announcement at the end of the summer which is far too late to actually begin a political campaign.

It isn't the first time someone has been wrong about Obama's past. It wouldn't be the last time. Frankly, President Obama has been confused about his own past at times.
