Hello,all.

My character is a Crusader and I am trying to find out the route he would have taken to get to Ruad from England. I found the route to get to the Holy Land but information about this particular route is proving hard to locate.

If anyone could kindly offer assistance or point me in the right direction,I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea, ruad's in syria right?

if she doesn't see this you should message medievalist, if she doesn't know, then she'll know where to send you to look.

When is your character making the journey? Time of year and which year?

Most likely from Cyprus, from the port of Famagusta.
More likely by stages of a sea voyage.
During that period Edward I was at war with Philip IV of France over control of Gascony so through France seems less likely.

Most likely from Cyprus.
Still thinking about how he'd get to Cyprus

Thank you for trying. I have looked everywhere! I didn't want to make up something and then have it make no sense. I want to be historically accurate.

If he went to Marseilles and sailed from there to Cyprus, do you think that would that be feasible?

Malta was a Templar stronghold for this reason.

A Google search on crusade routes is informative.

Gotcha. I am going to go back to the Google drawing board. Thank you for helping.

The maps in Terry Jones The Crusades may help you; I remember them being pretty good.

Ship from England to Castile, cross into Aragon, ship to Sicily via Majorca?

Don't forget that in Cyprus and Venice there were quarantines.

The wikipedia article on the fall of Ruad has some helpful information, including a map that shows some of the routes taken. I know wikipedia isn't always the most trusted site, but it should provide a good starting point at least.
