Whomever said history never repeats never worked in Hollywood. There, history doesn’t simply repeat it reproduces like rabbits on Viagra.
According to Box Office Mojo, 2011 will belch forth a whopping 27 sequels, breaking the record for most sequels since 2003. Anyone craving something original will look long and hard and mostly in vain. Originality from an industry that vomits out junk like Little Fockers? You silly fool.

Among the offerings coming to a multiplex near you:

Second films: Cars 2, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules, The Hangover Part II, Happy Feet 2, Hoodwinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil, Johnny English Reborn, Kung Fu Panda 2, Piranha 3DD, Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows.

Third films: Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, Madea’s Big Happy Family, Paranormal Activity 3, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.

Fourth films: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Scream 4, Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part One)

Fifth films: Fast Five, Final Destination 5, Puss In Boots, X-Men: First Class, Winnie The Pooh.

Seventh films: The Muppets and Rise Of The Apes.

Eighth film: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two.

MGM, newly risen from the dead, is planning sequels of Robocop, Poltergeist, Mr. Mom, and The Idolmaker. I know you're excited.

Sorry bad movie freaks. No Saw entry this year. :e2cry: Next year though? :e2chain:

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to decide between the third Big Momma's House: Like Father, Like Son or the Liam Neeson movie that isn't Taken 2: Retaken, but sure looks like it could be.

Movies are better than ever! Because they're the same damned movies!

Agreed

I hate that Disney tries to milk everything. Now ALL of their movies have to have a sequeal. The only time it has worked, for me at least, was in Toy Story. Honestly, I felt after the first Pirates they could have just left it alone, but no. I'm kinda surprised that Johnny Depp remained on for this instalment because Orlando Bloom and Keria are not involved.

By the way, sorry to get off topic, what the hell happened to Orlando Bloom? After the third Pirates he seemed to drop off the face of the earth

According to IMDB, he didn't do anything else in 2007, nothing in 2008, and in 2009, he was only in one film: New York, I Love You, which, if I recall, wasn't the best. He's got four more films coming out between '011 and '012, including The Three Musketeers and The Hobbit Part 1.

The only one I am excited about is Harry Potter. But that will be the end of the saga, not movie studios trying to squeeze more money out of a dying franchise.

Other than that, I will watch Cars 2 (my son loves the first) and probably X-Men because of Hugh. Oh, and Scream. Love the first three. I doubt this one will be as good, but I am curious what they have planned.

Johnny English? Johnny fuckin' English? Really? Really?! An eight year old film which wasn't particularly good in the first place is getting a sequel. Come on Rowan you can do better than this...

*looks at Mr. Bean's Holiday* I take it back this will be a masterpiece compared to that.

Funny. All the movies I really want to see are new, or at least, not direct sequels.

(Battle:LA next month and The Adjustment Bureau earlier next month)

Is this a sequel to the charming steampunk version or the one with the guy from Iron Man?

There's a steampunk version? Cool.

I think the sequel is to the one with the guy from Iron Man.

DH and I are also looking forward to "The Adjustment Bureau" and Battle: Los Angeles."

No disagreement with the OP, but there are also a couple of originals coming out this year that I think look like pretty decent. Battle Los Angeles, Hanna

ETA: Oh, and I think that Joss Whedon Cabin in the Woods movie is due out this year as well. It was supposed to be out last october but the MGM bankruptcy meant they didn't have money to promote it or something? That should be good too.

Is Wolverine in this film? I didn't think he was (or any of the other x-men, brotherhood ('cause those groups didn't exist when the film is set) bar Professor X and Magneto, who are being played by different actors).

The "guy-from-Iron-Man" version.

Nope. No Hugh Jackman in this one. You'll have to wait for 2012 and "The Wolverine" directed by Darren Aronowsky and if supposedly not a sequel to that previous suck-ass Wolverine flick.

Which will doubtlessly be roadkill at the box office by Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (but not in his Bat-shorts). :D

These are the ones I'll see:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
The Hangover Part II
X-Men: First Class

I'm really looking forward to Harry Potter, but I'm disappointed it's over. As far as non-sequels go, I'm looking forward to The Adjustment Bureau, Hanna, Beginners, Cowboys and Aliens and The Ides of March.
