I agree, it sucks. Rubbery and not at all chocolate-y enough.

I'm soooo glad to know it's horrible. At least once a year someone on here brings that up. I'm always tempted, but have been strong. Now I don't need to worry about it any more. ;)

I like to make it without the chocolate but it is rubbery and it only tastes nice warm. I've been experimenting with it hoping to get the recipe right but there's nothing like an oven cooked cake.

thank goodness!

I really thought it was just me. Especially after I posted the link on my FB and a friend said she'd made it, and insisted it was fabulous.

I love the theory behind this recipe, but it just fails.

Am glad for the update. I pasted and copied that recipe and now....will not try it. Thanks again for the update.

If I manage to perfect it, as these could be good I'll let you know as I really think these are lacklustre.

If you absolutely must have chocolate cake, bake the cake ahead of time, frost it, then divide it and baggie them in individual servings. Freeze for later.

Of all chocolate cakes this is my alltime favorite (can't eat it now) and the only chocolate cake I will make consistently. I've tried dozens of recipes and this is the only one I've kept.

I've heard of this, but it requires forethought. ;) And if I did this, I'd probably eat 2 a day until they were gone.

Yeah, I could never get this cake in a cup thing to work, and I'm glad.

I don't need to be able to make a chocolate chip chocolate cake in under 5 minutes.

Isn't that what the Easy Bake Oven is for?

I'm eating the Nutella version now.

1. I only had 1 tbl. of Nutella left in the house, but I went ahead anyway.
2. I cringed at the thought of 3 tbl. of oil in this small recipe, so I cut back to 1.

Do Not Do These Things.

It tastes heavenly, but it's on the dry side. I have no one to blame but myself for this.

However, this necessitates a repeat attempt after grocery shopping Saturday. Don't thank me, anyone: I'm happy to take one for the team.

I can only think that the originally posted choc cake recipe is to be consumed alongside a large glass of scotch, brandy or rum!

ETA: or, if you have been smoking something you shouldn't have.
