How long before he can fly?

My MC gets shot in the side, the bullet goes straight through him though he does suffer a bit of blood loss. He gets stitched up and what not, but how long could it be before he could get on a commercial airplane and take off from Texas to Ireland?

I was thinking of killing him, but he's just too nice of a guy, so I just had him shot instead.
