Seriously, though, why is it so hard to make a good sequel to Highlander?

Beyond the fact that the first movie was perfect and had a satisfactory ending that closed up all the holes one could imagine.

I have nothing against remakes, not in concept. I mean, The Thing is one of my favorite movie, and it's a remake. Adaptions and updates and so on, they're all part of the landscape and they have been ever since movies were invented.

I DO have something against remakes that are made because the producers want to squeeze more milk out of a saggy tit! Yeah, money is fine, but at the very least, have an artistic vision of one kind or another! Bring QUALITY to the thing.

Highlander is a neat story. No, it's an awesome story. It can be told well, and it can be told differently. Bring something new to the telling, or explore something that wasn't touched on in the original.

I know that this can be done. But will it?

I doubt it.

I could write several essays on what Highlander 2 was the most brick stupid film sequel in movie history. Fortunately The Spoony One, internet personality and avowed Highlander fan, has already done it.
