Hey gang,

For a project I'm working on right now I need as close to hard numbers as I can get for pistol and rifle suppressor decibel reduction. I do not care if this is by caliber, by brand, or by genre, but I need firm data to compare so as to explain and categorize. Anecdotal evidence is not, in this case, helpful.

Anybody have any handy links or charts?

Thanks!

everything you ever wanted to know about guns. There are links to youtube videos with silenced and non-silenced weapons. I just read through this the other day and learned a ton. You'll have to page through to find the correct page though, not doing it (again) myself :)

silencers are not as effective as you think...

That was a great thread; I was going to suggest Youtube.

Thanks for the replies.

Almost all the Youtube videos, and anything anecdotal or subjective, doesn't help me as I'm trying to gather hard data on db reduction (I've got enough personal experience to fill in the relativity gaps).

The wiki article is nice, and seems to be accurate, but is vague. I know that 130db is the median for good cans for most of the weapons that you commonly think about suppressing (and I've found some good meter testing to back that up), but I'm hoping for more data on different calibers and different grades of suppressors.

I've found a couple of nice websites, including one that does reviews using db meters, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any gems. After all, you can never have too much reference material.

A ton of suppressor links here.

The link under "Scientific" called suppressor trials 1999 seems to have what you're looking for, it even includes how effective the suppressor is from front, sides and behind the shooter.

D, why don't you stick those links into the firearms thread so we don't lose them? That guns.connect site is great. Best info I've seen on what cans actually do.
