"Have you tried the tortilla soup at Perrico's? It's the bomb delicious!"

Although in fairness, anyone still saying "the bomb" should get their coolness permanently revoked by The Tribunal.

For the rec... while I always have jokes... I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this. I do think it's superficial to talk about getting away from "violent" metaphors or references to weapons or what have you. It's shallow as shit. But at the same time, it also feels largely harmless. If that's how they want to go about things internally then that's okay for them, I suppose...

I agree. If Sarah Palin gets criticized for using "violent" metaphors, it only makes sense that CNN would make an effort not to use them. As you said, they are going about this internally. It's not as if outside forces and making them do it.

The cliches come fast and furious in the NFL:

They dodged a bullet.

I'm a soldier!

This is going to be a war.

Brett Favre is the old gunslinger.

and the worst cliche is "These two teams don't like each other." What two teams do like each other? Do they take showers together or what?

Didn't some network have a show called "Crossfire" not too long ago?

Son of a gun. I'd be a little gun shy if I were out there toting violent metaphors. I think people need to keep their eye on the target, and remember that shooting their yappers off can instigate a firefight anywhere. Going off half-cocked in hopes of capping some subliminal suggestion in the minds of the unstable has become a political gun slingers job requirement.

You won't catch me firing away at some clay pigeon in hopes of bagging a wayward politician trying to load his constituents full of buckshot.

Okay, enough already.......
