View Full Version : Seeking Web-Game Content Writers [low-pay/$10 per assignment]

We're back. Black Chicken has had a lot of success finding great writers via Absolute Write... so once more into the breach!

Let me just toss in up front, to help head off any commentary that might get anyone into moderator trouble:

The rates for this position are very low. We are a highly independent venture and are seeking hobbyists who are interested both in writing and earning some game industry credit/experience.

Also, we prefer to submit payment to our writers via PayPal.

And now, the prompt:

Black Chicken Enterprises, Inc., is seeking skilled writers to draft text for an upcoming web-based adventure game.

Writers must be able to write efficient, colorful prose based in an office setting with a humorous/satirical slant—think popular titles like Seinfeld (for the variety of daily minutia) or Office Space (for the satirical office environment). The game takes place in a large corporate cubicle-farm. The hero is a lowly office worker seeking to avoid the soul-crushing assignments given by 11 different bosses.

The target audience for the game covers virtually anyone, so the writing must be accessible. However, writers are encouraged to write in their own voice, as long as their style remains reasonably acceptable considering the era the game-world is set in (edgy, experimental text would be out of character, for example). The game should convey light-hearted, optimistic and mischievous fun while capturing the common nonsense of a working office.

Writing assignments will involve writing brief events that will crop up randomly in the course of the game as a challenge for the player to overcome. The pay is $10 per assignment, with each assignment consisting of the creation of 20 events (NB: Not $10 per item written, $10 per assignment of 20 total items). Each event will consist of a brief introductory paragraph of approximately 7 sentences, followed by 3 possible ways to resolve the event (as if it were being solved by completely different approaches), with 2-3 sentences describing the success of each of those actions. Writers must be able to work under deadline, develop their own content, and write from a prompt.

To Apply

Applications will consist of a single writing sample based on the structure used for an adventure in-game. Grammatical errors and simple typos will mean instant disqualification, so be sure to double-check your work prior to submission.

I should add as well... if you contact for this position, please mention "YouCube" in the subject line, so I know to distinguish it from the other position we've posted about. Thanks!

Just wanted to give a bump on this topic as well.

We're aiming for a summer release date, so if you want to get involved with the core writing, let us know!
