AW. A very nice place!
… yes. I found a quarter on the sidewalk, yesterday morning. Though minted in 1982, it’s still shiny. Instead of spending it I will keep it as a memento.

You can’t do much with a quarter these days anyway except to spend it on a gumball. There is a dispenser in my local supermarket. Who knows how long the gum has been in it though? I’ve never seen anyone buying any.

So how about you? Have you ever found money, or something else of value, or bought a gumball, if you don’t mind my asking?

I found $200 once and turned it into the police station. Nobody claimed it and they gave it to me 90 days later. I was a poor student and the extra money came in handy.

Once I found a purse with $800 in it, so I drove to the woman's house to return it, and she grabbed it and slammed the door w/o saying a word

Something else of value ... I went to a jumble sale to look for junk jewellery (JJ) to use as trims on some dressed teddy bears I was making. I paid £1 for the only bag of JJ and went home feeling jubilant! When I emptied the bag - it was a large plastic see through one measuring about 16 - 18 inches - I found an 18ct gold chain amongst the junk. The chain was about 30 inches long and needed some repairs. I took it to a friend who was in the jewellery trade and asked him if it was worth anything. He weighed it, looked at the hallmark, told me it was Victorian and offered me £200! I did not haggle but accepted.

Only change, but my sister found $604 once. We called the police and they took all our info and called 90 days later to say enjoy, no one claimed it.

I once found the equivalent of $20 on the floor in the lobby of my apartment building. I did not take it, figuring someone would notice it was gone and retrace their steps to find it. I passed the same spot 4 hours later and the $20 were still on the ground, so I figured, what the hell, and took them.

No idea what became of the money.

I've been in a cinema car park twice now (not the same one) and found £5 notes. They paid for the popcorn.

Spare change, that's about it. My brother found a wallet once with smething like $800.00 in it, but he turned it over to the proper authorities and when the owner claimed it, he gave my brother twenty bucks. My rule of thumb: If you find money laying around by itself, keep it; if it's in something, turn it in.

I used to work in a casino and I found a $1000 chip on the ground by an empty table. I was a good girl and stepped on it and radioed the pit boss to come and claim it. I received a free drink and a pat on the head. I think I would have rather kept the chip.

... it's good to know you can turn money in to the police if you find a large sum. The person who lost it can identify it rather easily, now that I think of it. All they have to do is describe the vicintiy they were in and say what time it was. No need for serial numbers on the bills to be given or anything like that. That's also good to know in case you ever lose loot yourself.

One Christmas season, I found a $20 bill in the snow in a McDonald's parking lot. This was back when I was in high school, so it about doubled my Christmas-shopping budget.

I found a credit card right by the driver's side in a parking spot at my dorm. This was back when our local shops never asked for ID, and she hadn't signed the card. I left her a voicemail -- she lived in a distant dorm. She made me get up early and hand-deliver the damned card to a shut door. No thank you. Nothing. I swear I shouldv'e bought a few drinks that night instead, then cut it up.

My ex lost 'our' wallet on a French train to Spain, in our shared cabin with other folks. We actually got it back hours later, and only the Francs were missing! We had a ton of other money in there. Amazing :)

Back in the early 1990s I found $100 in the pocket of my dark blue blazer. I hadn't worn it in almost a year, and when I put it on I reached into the pocket and discovered a roll of five $20 bills. Not sure how it got there -- I'm guessing that some dumbass carelessly put the money in the pocket while out drinking with his friends, and carelessly forgot all about it. Probably someone who was completely irresponsible back then. Totally immature, too.

Where am I?
Once I found 40 Finnish Mark (back in FM days), I thought to keep it myself, but silly me told to a friend about it and had to share it.

Second time I found a wallet from front yard of the building. I told it about parents and they said have to find the owner, who dad found by calling the owner. After all meeting the owner I got 40 Euros(?) as reward. :D

I bought a coat at a vintage store once and found $50 stuck in an inside pocket. It paid for the coat. :D

Mostly, I find small change on the floor or pavement such as quarters and pennies - but I did find a $5 bill last month while on Vancouver. The funny thing is, I'd donated every penny of change I had while at Tim Hortons just minutes before. Karma at it's best, methinks!

My friend finds money all. The. Time.

She found $100 dollar bill in Walmart. And then a 20 on the floor at the mall.

I'm pretty sure a person has to leave the house to find money, otherwise it doesn't count. Lets me out. ;)

We have a house rule that any money I find doing laundry is mine to keep. (When our son lost a $20 bill in high school, I gave it back, though.) I make a few bucks a year is all.

However, when my mother-in-law died and my husband found it too painful to go through her things--a huge job I handled alone--I found cash here and there. Kept it all, totaling several hundred dollars. Still not enough to pay me for the hassle, or erase the ugly thoughts about me she recorded in her journal.

Maryn, who apparently holds a grudge

Most I've ever found was $20, which I kept.

I used to have recurring dreams of finding stacks of money that turned out to be counterfeit. A dream interpreting friend told me it's a fear of making poor choices.
