I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.

Pure class.

I never knew he started out as a serious actor. I say the world is less one truly great comedic actor.

I say the world is less one truly great comedic actor.

He was definitely that in his prime. OK, he was in some pretty poor films over the last fifteen years or so but Airplane and Naked Gun make up for it.

When I see him in a serious role from his earlier career (the original "Poseidon Adventure, " for instance), I keep waiting for the zinger one-liners which never arrive.

And never again will. Rest easy, Mr. Nielson--you made us laugh until we cried.

Maryn, who'll watch Airplane again real soon

It appears that Mr Nielson was a bit of a prankster. I had heard about his 'fart' machines but not the extent to which he used them.

Vale. Also, an important clarification (http://www.dangerousminds.net/comments/steve_martin_has_not_died/) about the recent passing of Mr. Nielsen.

 A little smile amongst the gloom - certainly he would have wanted that.

While I hate to be "That Guy," it's Nielsen.

Anyway:

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girl dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Jane: Goodyear?

Frank: No, the worst.

Awesome.

I loved his movies so much I almost cried when I read about his passing, but then I started remembering his movies and burst out laughing instead.

True. I was so focused on getting the I and E the right way around, I didn't realise I'd put ON instead of EN. D'oh.
