Hi everyone, I heard that some agents would touch your ms if it's not up to their word count. I most sites state 70k or something, but for agent especially for young adult is there a cut off point?
Thanks,
Raven

Welcome to AW. Word counts vary a bit by genre. What is your genre and word count? Maybe try posting the first few pages in the correct Share Your Work section, and people can give suggestions for expanding or cutting. Good luck.

For YA 40-80 is the good. Agents tend to avoid over 100 (sometimes 120k) with the exception of some fantasy/sci-fi.

I wouldn't go much below 40K for YA, although there are exceptions. (Fifteen years ago, the low end of YA was 25K, but Harry Potter changed that. LOL!)

Thanks you guys. I'll have to read the link. I was thinking of ending it at 5ok but I don't know. Thanks for all your help.

For YA, the 50s is an excellent choice.

Thanks, Julie. I kinda thought that 50k was good for YA, but I wanted to make sure before I start sending out query letters.
Thanks again,
Raven

I've read that for a first novel, even fantasy/sci-fi, a new author should keep the word count below 100K.
