Anybody know what this word actually means? Matska

In context it seems to be associated with the Austrian Empire and/or Eastern Europe and might be some kind of nickname akin to "Mamma". Maybe.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Google it. It can mean, be a surname, and other. I think that there are words in different languages that are spelled that way.

From your description, I guess that you found the "chick" usage.
