Okay, I realise I've had a decent amount of good news of late, but this, for me personally, tops them all. I can finally announce my new book deal. This is so huge for me because I haven't sold a book in a long time, and was starting to feel quite frustrated about it. We all know just how tough it is these days, way harder to sell a book even when I was trying to sell ALEX way back in . . . 2006. That's only 4 years, but the change in the industry - both with the economy and ebook business - has been insane. So the fact that I am actually being published again, and in a new genre (YA), just blows my mind.

Here's the PM announcement:

ALEX AND THE IRONIC GENTLEMAN author Adrienne Kress's Young Adult debut THE FRIDAY SOCIETY, in which the lives of three intelligent and very talented young women, all of whom are assistants to very powerful men, become inextricably linked by a chance encounter and a murder, to Nancy Conescu at Dutton, for publication in 2012, by Jessica Regel at Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency (world).

To beef up the description a bit - the story is Steampunk, set in Edwardian London (1900). I've been calling it a Steampunk Charlie's Angels without the Charlie :) . And like the description said, it's about three very clever assistants to very powerful men in London society: a personal assistant to an MP/Genius Inventor, a Magician's assistant, and a young Japanese samurai assistant to a self defense instructor. The three of them come together to form The Friday Society - which is my version of Charlie's Angels (again, without the Charlie - the book is all about girls realising that they have as many skills - if not more - than their male bosses, as assistants often do, so it's important that they are in charge of their own team, no one else). They also seriously kick ass.

And if people want to learn about the whole process (which was pretty unique, it wasn't the typical write the book and submit kind of thing), you can read a detailed account over at my blog:

Thank you as always to everyone here, you are all so supportive and have been my strength in tough times. You guys rock! :)

Fabulous news!!! I'm currently trying to sell a few books myself after my last (and only) published book hit shelves in late 2005. I haven't thought about writing any more until about late August and now I'm hitting the ground running again.

Also queried my first ever agent yesterday too.

Good luck on the new deal and I can't believe its been so long since Alex. You are definitely on track to be a new "Series of Unfortunate Events" type sensation;)

Wow! This is like the whipped cream on the recent ice cream sundae of good news that has been scooped into the fluted glass which is the Goals and Accomplishments forum of Absolute Write, and not just ANY sundae, but one only Adam Richman could eat. [Takes a deep breath after that brilliant simile.]

Congratulations! And here are the bananas from the bottom of the sundae:

I know it must have been a frustrating time leading up to this. We all think, sell that first book and you're in, but your experience certainly proves that isn't necessarily the case. So it must be doubly sweet to finally have another sale! Plus what a great experience, having that kind of support from the very beginning of the project. You must have learned an incredible amount.

Now get back to work. We have great expectations of you.
