Wow!

My first earthquake!

Just had a 5.5 here in central Oklahoma, centered about 10 miles east of Norman. I'm about forty some-odd miles north of that and the whole house shook - lamps and candlesticks dancing on the heavy cherry sideboard a few feet from me.

And, believe it or not, Mindy the Wonderdog and Domino, the Fearless were BOTH trying to climb onto my lap just seconds before a whole lotta shakin' started goin' on. The lap deal isn't unusual for Mindy, but Domino NEVER wants to cuddle.

Wow! That's very big for non-earthquake places. Cool! And so cool about the dogs.

I forgot to mention... Domino's a cat. :) But yeah! I thought it was weird at the time and I was holding her when the shaking started.

I guess Oklahoma really does have it all. We've even had the eye of a hurricane cross over us.

A dark, evil place.
God must be punishing you because the farmer and the cowman aren't friends.

We've been having a butt-load of them north east of Oklahoma City, around a little town called 'Jones, OK'. Two and three level. This is the biggest since the 5.5 on April 9, 1952, in El Reno.

Made Tulsa news... and there were a few broken windows downtown.

Didn't feel a thing here, though some in my town apparently did, as it's listed in the "felt" list in the news report.

We're Tremor Buddies! We had one early this summer & the couch swayed back and forth.

I didn't feel that one, but some co-workers who were up on the fourth floor of a building and did feel it. The one before that around here was about twenty years ago. Earthquakes do happen in Southern Ontario, but they're not very common.

Gerry wants to know if he can do anything to help you recover. Apparently he likes to make the earth move, himself.

Yes, this post is completely irrelevant.

No, Ol' Bag won't do a dern thing about it!

Here. Now.
Congratulations on your first earthquake. I'm glad you're okay and the dog and cat got through it.
I've been in one earthquake, a 4.2 (or so) in 1987 in Northern B.C. The bed shook. I thought I was possessed.

I felt the earth move the other day. But then I was in an alcohol induced stupor and didn't realize I had boarded a train.

Just seeing him helped tremendously... and knowing how much he really cares about my welfare.

And you're wrong... I will do a dern thing about it. I'll quote it so I can see it twice.

Lovely shot, BTW, SP. I think there must've been an aftershock there the instant I saw it...

They've upgraded the quake to a 5.1, too! And here's a link to a video of a guy filming his local blog about OU sports when it hit... just call him 'Captain Obvious'!

I originally posted another pic, but changed it to that one, 'cause his biceps are...

Nope. Sorry. They need no explanation.

Gerard Butler's biceps, ladies and gentlemen.

I keep checking up on the earthquake news because it keeps changing. First I read, it was a 4.5, then a 4.3, now up to a 5.1.

I'm roughly thirty miles north, and I thought the neighbor's cat must be up on the roof chasing the squirrels.

Beautiful that you felt the earth move, under your feet..

..nature has a way of reminding us that we are not the only ones on earth, and it does it so in a full manner of expressionism.

Nope, Susie... no damage up here where I am. Down closer to the epicenter, they had some cracked foundations, a few crooked pictures, and some broken windows. All in all, pretty exciting and mostly harmless. :D

So, now for those keeping tabs, we've had:

1) World's strongest tornado, May 3, 1999 (318mph)
1a) Record number of confirmed tornadoes in one 24-hour period: May 3-4, 1999
2) Record-setting 12" snowfall on December 24, 2009
3) Record-setting 11" rain in June, 2010
4) Epic record-setting hail storm on May 16, 2010
5) Record ice storm in February, 2002, and December, 2007
6) 5.1 Earthquake, October 13, 2010

Notice: I am NOT going to ask 'What ELSE could happen?'. No. I ain't stooooopid.

I've had a crappy evening, so I'll leave Gerry here to play with Ol' Bag while I have an early night.
