So, I know it's bad to leave a bow strung in storage.

How long would a bow be left strung for in the field, in a military situation? Say, there's a group of soldiers on a maneuver where it's possible they could be attacked. Do they leave their bows/crossbows strung the entire day just in case? After a little practice, I can string my recurve in under 20 seconds, would they have just kept them unstrung and then strung them immediately in the event of an attack?

The tactics are more guerrilla type, bowmen in the woods skirmishing when they engage more than hand to hand.

if you hunt all day you would leave the bow strung all day

same here

not months, but days would be fine.

Thanks. The only bow hunters I know use compounds, which are strung all the time so I wasn't sure.

Soldiers and hunters often had several bows.
