Sent a query, synopsis, and partial to Prospect Literary (per their guidelines) last night at about 7pm. By noon today I had my rejection. The last agent I sent a partial to took 6 weeks to reject me. :D

UPDATE

well, I couldn't help myself. I wrote the agent back and asked if she could tell me why it was rejected. I didn't expect a response, but I got one. This is what she said:

"Dear Mr. McAfee,

It seemed derivative of other books on the market though your writing was
strong. I'd be happy to take a look at anything new and original in the
future!"

This is actually encouraging, because it means that even if I can't get this first book published, there is still hope for me.

Sorry about the rejection but that is an encouraging invitation. Good luck in landing an agent -- this one or another one. ;)

"Original" is the killer, isn't it?

Sorry you got an R, but it was a pretty encouraging one!! Did you include any market info on why your book was better than/had something more/was unique from other books on the market already??
