Hi all,

I've written a short story about a teenage boy dealing with grief after his mother's death from cancer. It's 1,800 words. My question is does anyone know a market which takes stories longer than the magical 1,000 or 1,500 limits?

just a thought

hi jenny,

can you not edit the word count down? at least for those publications that have the 1500 word limit? i am not saying you should give up searching for a publication willing to accept its current length. however, having two versions to submit, based on the word count requirement, would most certainly widen your chances of placing it.

best regards,

ileana

Absolutely, Ileana. But I'd like to know of any kids markets that take stories upto 2,000 words, anyway.

Have you tried Cicada (owned by Cricket, I think). They tend to do longer pieces aimed at a YA audience.

Kelly, I'd forgotten about Cricket. I have a story waiting there, so I'd wiped it from my mind/list of options. Definitely a possible, thanks.
