If/when I get published

Will my publisher let me tell everyone I know when the release date is, or is it relatively secret? Curious, considering this is my first novel.

Sorry for the stupid question. I'm just making sure I do this right.

Why would it be a secret? What purpose would that serve? The publisher would probably want you to go out there and tell everyone to get your book when it's released! The release date is usually available -- press release, website, listings, etc.
