Since this is important, I hope you will all discuss it thoroughly. Lol.

I, for one, drink it...

... soup is way too hot to drink in my humble opinion. So sipping it with a spoon is the only way to go, unless you give it sufficient time to cool. And who has patience to do that? Not me certainly! :-P

good point, Ken. I always wait 'til it's cool to drink. Hence, it takes me quite a long time to finish it. :D

... "a long time to finish it," and a long time to enjoy it as well.
Hmm. May have to switch tactics.

I do both. Start out by eating, then when it's cooled some and no one is looking, gulp it straight down out of the bowl.

Soup is one of my favorites to have before a meal, or while enjoying a sandwich. Love making it, too, especially pea soup and chicken noodle.

Chicken noodle, beef noodle: sip broth first (usually with a spoon), then the noodles, meat and veggies.

Split pea, lentil: broth and solids together eaten with a spoon.

4 options that determine eating or drinking I think
1. is it served in a cup or bowl?
2. does it have floaties (bits o' meat or veggies)?
3. is it a thick starchy creamy style (potato, pea etc.) or
is it a light broth/bouillon.
4. spoon or fork?

there could be more, but I like the noodle in a bowl
so I be eating my soup . . .
er. . . but then I'm sipping the left over broth

So both.
Hope this settles it.

I will drink cream of chicken soup when I'm sick. Otherwise, I'm not much of a soup person.

I love cereal.

If it's cool enough to drink, then it's too cold.

Love making it, too, especially pea soup and chicken noodle.

Oh I love split pea soup! I'm the only one in my house that eats it. I make a big pot and freeze it. Cream of Mushroom is my second favorite and then chicken noodle.

I eat mine.

DO you drink your cereal?

When it gets soggy... yes. ;)

Doesn't often get that soggy though. ;)

The funny thing is, I don't even like the taste of peas as a side dish, but it's my favorite soup.

If you have a crock pot, try this simple recipe some time:

I package (16 oz) dried split peas (rinsed and sorted)
8 oz ham or smoked sausage, browned and cut into bite-size pieces
3 cans chicken broth or stock (44 or so ounces total)
2 small to medium carrots, chopped
2 ribs celery, chopped
1/2 potato, skinned and diced
1 small to medium onion, chopped
3/4 teaspoon dried marjoram leaves
1 or 2 bay leaves

Dump all of the ingredients into the crock pot and cook on the high setting for four to five hours, after which you will be in soup heaven. :)

Silver King, that sounds like a great recipe.

I love split pea soup, though I hate peas. Weird, huh?
I'll have to give your recipe a shot. I usually get stuck with canned, because I don't really have time to cook, but this I can probably manage.

Thanks for sharing it. :)

I, for one, drink it...

It depends on what kind of soup it is.

Tomato- yeah, drink it.
Chicken Noodle- eat the noodles, drink the broth
Cream of Mushroom or Chicken- eat it, with crackers.
Homemade Soups of any kind- eat it.
Split Pea- eat it.

During the winter, I love soup!

They sell cups of soup, where you can just nuke 'em and drink 'em.
I buy those sometimes when I'm at work at night. Especially in the winter.

So, I guess I drink, slurp, eat, and sop ( with crackers or bread) up soup.

Drinking soup is gross!! NO, I eat it.

Hubby eats with a spoon, then drinks the last bit. I hate that. He even got our oldest to start doing that.

He recently bought some microwavable soup that you drink, told me I could have some. Drink chicken noodle soup? Ewww.

The only soups I even like are homestyle chicken noodle, potato, minestrone, and tomato. Tomato is the only one I could see maybe someone drinking it. Just not me.

You're welcome.

I'm making a pot right now. Posting about it last night gave me the strongest urge for pea soup today. The nice thing about the recipe, besides the great taste, is that it's so easy to make. It took about fifteen minutes of prep work, tops, and the crock pot will do the rest of the job.

A couple of tips: Briefly stir the soup every ninety minutes or so while it's cooking, then quickly replace the lid. (It takes a few minutes for the heat to build again in the pot, so you don't want to stir the soup too often.) After about five hours, if the soup thickens too much, add a little water. If it's too thin after that time, allow it to cook longer until it reaches the consistency you like best.

The soup is filling enough to make a meal by itself, and the leftovers will last several days in the fridge. Just add a little water as you reheat, as the soup will have thickened from when it was first cooked. You can also freeze some and enjoy it weeks later.

Good luck. :)
