View Full Version : My first rejection!

Today, I got my first rejection. Don't get me wrong - not everything I've submitted has been published - I gotten the pocket veto (when they just ignore you) on several occasions. But today I got my first real rejection letter. It is from Jane magazine, their "It Happened to Me" section - the only section (they claim in Writer's Market) that is open to freelancers. Here is the email -

Dear Lydia:

Thank you for submitting your article to Jane.

While we enjoyed your honesty on such a personal topic and appreciate
you sharing your experience with us, we are unfortunately unable to
run it at this time.

We hope you'll submit again in the future.

Best regards,

Rachel H. Gray

What do you think? Does it sound like they wrote it to me, or like a form email?

It's weird, but this makes me feel more like a "real" writer.

That's because you've been blooded.

Good luck with your next submission.

You're Off!! Frame it. Actually, it's not a bad one.

Where is this 2005 collector's list you speak of?

It's in the humor forum. The forum mod is trying to collect 1500 rejections by year end. They don't have to be humor related.
