Trying to remember a movie.

Sad I've forgotten it because I quite enjoyed it when I watched it the first time.

I think it had a book it was based on, or vice-versa, not sure.

But it was about a very brilliant man, some sort of mathematician who specialized with patterns. Somewhere along the line he goes insane, thinking he's been hired by the CIA to crack codes.
