I'm working on a novel so short that I think it's more like a novelette. I'm guessing it may be 50,000 words.

I'm not going to say my novelette is great, but it's competent and publishable.

it depends on genre and age, but 50k would generally be a novella. a novellte would be under 20k. and both have markets.

Try going to http://www.ralan.com and look under novels. There should be some markets there.

Print or e-book?

There are several electronic publishers who publish novellas. Genre counts, too. If you've got 50,000 words for a YA or MG story, you're right in the sweet spot.

Preferably, it's a print book. The genre might be considered film noirish, but of course, it's a book, not a movie.

50,000 words is technically a novel. However, many genres have certain word counts for novels.

Have you considered publishing it digitally, either entirely or digital+print?

I think there is a market for both, but honestly, you need to go out and do the research. Like others have said there are many epubs that will take novella's, if the book is good enough, they might run both ebook and print.
Also, do you have an agent? There are probably agents out there that specialize in shorter books and publishers the like.
