Today's message is don't EVER give up.

I'm still a little dumb-struck over here, but (Yipppeee!!!) my novel just placed in the William Faulkner-Wisdom "Novels-In-Progress" Competition.

Quick question: Am wondering should I contact the agents reading to let them know it placed? I know for certain I would if I'd won, but I'm not so sure if being a semi-finalist warrants an e-mail...

What do you think, friends?

I'd mention it in queries.

That's great, Suzan. Congrats 'n way2go! It wouldn't hurt if you mentioned it to them if you're contacting them with something else and just say by the way ...

First, congratulations! That's excellent news. :)

If an agent is reading a partial or full, you can email them with the news that you just found out that you placed in that competition.

If you're querying, you should mention it in the query.

ETA: You could send a "query update" to those who you already queried, but haven't responded. It is important enough to mention, and it is a novel competition.

Congrats! That is certainly an honor worthy of mention in queries. And yes, I'd let agents who are reading requested partials and fulls know.

Congratulations!
I have no idea on whether that's query-worthy, but looks like most everyone else thinks so...I imagine it would depend on how many semi-finalists there were.

Hello Stormie and all the rest of you AWr's who were so wonderful and kind as to offer up your advice to me. I came to this site, a total newbie, a little over a year ago. What I've gotten here is a lot of support, some really good laughs, and one hell-uv-a education!

I want all of AW to know I took this sound advice... And what did it get me?!
WELL, if you really want to know... It got me two more full requests AND (here's the kicker) it also landed me a couple offers of representation.

I also have an author friend who I ran it past to be REALLY sure, and her exact words were, "YES!! Tell everyone!" LOL.

So that's basically what I did...

Now, I'm going to take the weekend to think about everything that's transpired over these last two days and then I'm making a decision Monday.

My hope is that the people who read this post, and especially those who are still seeking representation, will be inspired like I have been by so many of you. Seriously, we all know that it's really hard work, but if you love to write and work long and hard enough at it (and learn from your peers) well, your chances of succeeding get pretty darn good : )
