View Full Version : The Pillars of the Earth

Series (http://www.the-pillars-of-the-earth.tv/) premieres tomorrow on Starz.

I enjoyed the novel a great deal and I'm looking forward to the series. Anyone else?

Here's a review: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/07/22/1740130/medieval-depravity-as-a-fun-tv.html

For a miniseries about the construction of a church, The Pillars of the Earth is one unholy affair. It's got arson, rape, torture, witchcraft, incest, urophilia, mutilation, infanticide, regicide, genocide and what I believe to be the first TV prison escape built around baby poop.

I've been thinking about subscribing to Starz to see it.

As soon as it's somewhere I can watch (no Starz in Kanata) I will be watching.

Well, the first episode was pretty good. Follows the book fairly well, from what I remember. I'll keep watching.

I enjoyed the book, too; and I've also thought about subscribing to Starz to see it. I guess I waited too long... I'll catch it when it's released on DVD, if the reviews here stay positive.

I confess I'm even more curious about it since reading the 'baby poop/prison escape'. I sure don't remember THAT from the book.

I'm enjoying it. I'm not all that familiar with the historical story of that era, so even though some names are vaguely familiar, and I know we end up with Henry II at some point, it's not like I have any idea what's going to happen next, even historically.

Needless to say, I didn't read the book. :)

Episodes 1 & 2 (so far) are streaming from Netflix for those who have it.

I would have entirely missed this had I not seen this thread--thanks.

Hope that NetFlix carries it--No TV here.

Book is spectacular! I was very skeptical about a series living up to it, so thanks, Rob, for starting this thread! :)
