An interesting article, (http://www.rhinemagazine.com/culture-shock)by someone living in Germany, but it applies to anyone who has moved country.



Kalvero Oberg was one of the first writers to identify five distinct stages of culture shock. He found that all human beings experience the same feelings when they travel to or live in a different country or culture. He found that culture shock is almost like a disease: it has a cause, symptoms, and a cure.

My wife, a psychologist, has written a whole book about adjustment to living in another culture. Here's a brief excerpt, which summarizes acculturation pretty succinctly:

i now have added Culture Shock to list of things i need to read up on... AW has me so busy these days, if im not writing im usually reading up on some new thing i learnt here... best website ever!
