If it were the right kind of fertilizer perhaps. But lightning wouldn't strike it unless it had a metal spike in the middle or something. That is to say it wouldn't strike the fertilizer because it's non conductive. I suppose if it was really wet maybe, but to have any decent probability at all it would have to be on a rooftop or something. Electricity will always take the path of least resistance, it follows the paths it follows for a reason, it's not random.

I'd stay away from it as a plot device unless there's a good reason why the lightning would strike there (like magic), otherwise it would just seem too improbable.
