View Full Version : The car you would drive

Picture this - let's say you hit a major advance and your book is on the NYT list. So, with this in mind, what car would you choose to drive?

My take - Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

What's yours? :)

I can't drive.

If I could, a Testarossa. Or an F40. Or McLaren F1. Or Lamborghini Diablo. Or Jaguar XJ220.

A Toyota minivan with tons of toys, crayons, Play-doh, papers, notebooks, pens, DVDs, and candy on the floor.

So yeah, nothing would change there. :)

A one-owner, mint-condition, red 2002 Kia Rio Cinco with less than 45000 miles on it. In other words: the one I have now.

Just an old Honda like I do now :) Not that I don't like luxury in anything, just not in cars. I love my old, old Hondas!

Jags are the prettiest cars, I will say.

Ford Falcon XB GT coupe. If I could actually find one, of course, they're that rare.

Or a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT350. And no kids allowed. :)

A yellow Toyota FJ. I could probably afford one, but since it is my current dream car...I have to wait until I win a lottery to get one. I like the way they look like big Tonka cars. (-:

If I came into scads of dosh, a car wouldn't be where I'd spend it. There are a lot of fancy cars, but I have loved the Mazda MX-5 (Miata) ever since it came out. And I loved my Audi A3. I dig just about all the Audis - the new A5, and the supercar, whatever it's called.

But I'd probably go a superclean vintage Vespa or Lambretta to go with my current ET4. And then, well, a beach house, a surfboard, the entire discography of everybody, a recording studio, and lessons for me and some mates so we could just jam econo* forever.

I can't drive.

If I could, a Testarossa.
Something that sounds something like that. A Tesla Roadster (http://www.teslamotors.com/).

Well, the NAME sounds like that. The Tesla Roadster sounds like almost nothing. Blind people are appalled.

Well, ...

Maybe I should get two of those Boxter Spider thingies...
Six-speed manual transmission - my Accord only has a five-speed manual.

But then there's the Tesla's simplicity of "press down and hold on."

If my driver side window stops working, I'm screwed. :D

Despite loving cars, I probably wouldn't actually use the money on such things. But in case I decided to do so anyway...first car that comes to mind is a Corvette, maybe one of those new Grand Sports (convertible option, please!). But I could also go for a Dodge Viper SRT-10...ooooh, or a Saleen S7 Twin Turbo! You did say it was a pretty major advance, didn't you? :D

Or I would just learn to ride a motorcycle like I've talked about for a few years now, and spend the money on a nice bike of some kind. (Can you tell I don't know much about motorcycles? lol)

Black Mercedes. Don't care what year. (Diesel, though I could have it converted to electric after the big sale / options :D)
I'll stay out of the bike discussion, as I still love my old refurbished Campagnolo street bike...

... definitely a restored vintage car from the 60s or 70s like a Barracuda or something. I might even go for one from the 40s or 50s thought that would probably be a bit impractical. Would have to look into that.

I'd probably keep driving the crusty minivan I own now for a few years. But when the kids are grown, I'd go electric. A Smart Car or whatever dandy new model is on the market in the distant future when my giant advance comes.

(My husband votes for a Terrafugia. (http://www.terrafugia.com/))

Shoot, I'd just throw a thousand or two dollars into my 1996 Dakota and get a few more years out of it. I bought it as a stop-gap when my son wrecked my regular car in December 2008. I fell in love with it. It's got it's "character defects" but I'd like to keep it a while longer.

Maybe a newer van like my current one. I could use a few of the 'loaded' features, but I need something to haul the whole family.

Especially with the Code 7 armour that withstands NATO bullet rounds from 5cms and RPG fire.
