Saw this whilst surfing the net - Jumping Jack Press is looking for children stories. The pay looks good : @$800, didn't take a note of the royality situation. Anyway, the deadline is 7/15/10...

Now this seems worth pursuing! Hmmm...I wonder if I have something to sub? <rushes off...in a hurry>

Wow, red, there ya go again, sharing! You're super. Thx so much. That does sound great.

Finally a company who WANTS animal stories! Thanks for this.

Good luck to us all! Let me know if anyone hits the jackpot!

redflame

Guys, plse note there is a 200 word limit on the open call and seasonal stories....:flag:

Catadmin
07-13-2010, 09:24 PM
That's good to note. I didn't see it the first time I read through the .pdf. But I was going to go back and re-read once I redirected my attention to this. Thanks again, Red.

And definitely want to hear back from people who get accepted. @=)

redflame

Correction, the pay per story is from $700 - $1000! Good days! Ha ha ha.

Catadmin - you are welcome!

Susie
07-14-2010, 01:25 AM
Hey, red & Catadmin. I sent my story today. Keeping fingers crossed, though not holding my breath. It sure is hard to write only 200 words and make a complete story out of it, huh.

redflame
07-14-2010, 11:06 AM
Yes, a 200 word limit is VERY challenging, Susie! Oh, well...one can only try!

Catadmin
07-14-2010, 07:13 PM
I'm curious, RedFlame, where did you get the word count? I don't see it anywhere on the sub guidelines. Not that 7-8 page spreads is huge anyway, but given the size of the book, 200 words actually seems like a lot.

redflame
07-14-2010, 08:05 PM
Catadmin, I obtained the information from the email address given for submissions. I had an almost immediate response from someone called, Monika Brandrup, VP, Creative Director.

:)

Catadmin
07-14-2010, 11:39 PM
Ah. Thanks. I emailed asking if there was a limit to the number of submissions but have not yet heard back. I'm going ahead with the writing, and if I don't hear back by tomorrow, I'll start tossing the subs their way and hope for the best.

Good luck, Catadmin! Nothing tried, nothing gained..

Good luck, Catadmin! Nothing tried, nothing gained..

Thanks! I wasn't going to bother since I found out about this so late...but you're right: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I hope submitting today was okay, since the pdf mentioned 'by 15th.'

Did anyone find out when the decision will be made by?

Good luck, everyone!

Catadmin
07-16-2010, 12:06 AM
Don't know when the decision will be made by, but finally heard back on the multi-submission thing. They are indeed allowed.

Susie
07-17-2010, 02:38 AM
Hey, red 'n all. I sent them a story for Christmas and boy was it hard to cut it down to 200 words. Sure would be nice to get an acceptance, but not holding my breath. Good luck, y'all!

redflame
07-17-2010, 03:49 AM
Susie, I'm not holding my breath either but it was an opportunity not to be overlooked!

Good luck to you and everyone! Hopefully someone strikes 'gold'!

Catadmin

Catadmin

In terms of the internet, aren't 'cookies' bad things?

Actually, cookies are only bad things when they're created for malicious reason. To know the difference between bad cookies and good cookies, remember that they save little bits of your information on your computer and are accessed by websites, email, and all sorts of other web-based programs.

Third party cookies are not always good (though some are used for secure site certificates) while cookies on a hijacked website are always bad. Cookies can't be avoided, though, because every time you surf your favorite web comic, or even this site, you're using cookies. Cookies enable you to auto-login or be remembered at this site. They keep your history, etc.

So, if you're a total privacy freak, the only way to avoid cookies is to not get on the internet at all. But if you're smart about your browser settings and what websites you visit, you have nothing to worry about cookies.

(PM me if you want more info)

And we now return you to our regularly scheduled thread of "Can't wait to hear back from JJP!!!" @=)

I have heard from neither side of the coin toss yet. I'm hoping they send out rejections as well as acceptances so everyone knows. Of course, they might also post on their website.

Has anyone heard from Jumping Jack Press?

MoodswingMedia
08-06-2010, 04:25 AM
I emailed them last night about the status of my submission. They replied:

Hi Michael-

"We just made a decision today. Although it was in the final selection, if was not chosen for development.

Thank you so much for your submission."

Personally, I think it's a big coincidence that they made their decision the very day I emailed...but it is what it is I guess.

redflame
08-06-2010, 05:30 AM
Michael,

Yes, a very BIG coincidence to be sure...I've had similar 'coincidences' before...

Red.

ps: better luck next time!

redflame
08-06-2010, 07:40 PM
No good news....

'We just reached a decision yesterday, and I am sorry to inform you that your submission was not selected. Yes, we are always open for submissions.

Thank you so much for participating.

Regards-

Monika'

ps: Michael, it seems you might have been close to acceptance afterall....

I entered two stories, have not heard back and am too chicken to write them and ask just yet. I'll ask Monday if I haven't heard back.

Susie
08-06-2010, 11:12 PM
Me too, icerose. I'd like to write and ask, but figured I'd let it rest awhile. :)

redflame
08-06-2010, 11:12 PM
Icerose, I emailed them for the results...

Finchlark
08-07-2010, 11:39 AM
I'm sure they would have let everyone selected know so if we haven't heard - and I haven't - then I guess that's that.

Susie
08-09-2010, 08:07 PM
Well, durn it, I didn't hear so I guess I better stop pretending to spend that $700! :D

icerose
08-09-2010, 08:34 PM
I wasn't selected either. The rejection e-mail stated the results were posted on Linked In, but I have no idea what that is.

Writesforlaughs
08-09-2010, 08:51 PM
That's the message I got, too, Icerose. It seems you have to join "Linkedin" to be able to see the results. Does anyone here belong to Linkedin?

redflame
08-09-2010, 08:56 PM
Look at the 'Networking: Shared Leads' board - it appears Penguin are accepting unsolicited manuscripts for a 3 month period, starting this month...

That's the message I got, too, Icerose. It seems you have to join "Linkedin" to be able to see the results. Does anyone here belong to Linkedin?

Did you have to email to get the reply?

I wonder why LinkedIn though.. that's more of a facebook for businesses.

Catadmin
08-10-2010, 12:15 AM
I'm on LinkedIn. Can someone tell me the name or group that published the results and I'll look?

redflame
08-10-2010, 01:31 AM
Jinkang, Jumping Jack Press said they would email the results. They didn't so I assume only the successful authors received a response.

ps: I emailed as the 2 weeks processing period was over and I was eager to know the results...

Catadmin
08-10-2010, 01:56 AM
I didn't hear back either, but I'm interested in checking out their LinkedIn presence as well as seeing who did get in.

redflame

Catadmin, it would indeed be interesting to find out who won, if anyone etc...

Writesforlaughs
08-10-2010, 04:49 AM
Catadmin,
The info on Linkedin would probably be on Monika Brandrup's page. She's the Creative Director the submissions were directed to.

Susie
08-10-2010, 05:04 AM
Is anyone a member of Linkedin? Can they see the names who were accepted? Luv to know who is on there ... Thx much. Does anyone have an email for Monika Brandup? Thx.

Hey, Suse,
Monika's email is the same email we sent the stories to: creativedirector@upwithpaper.com

Susie

I'm on Linkedin. I've looked on Monika's page but can't see anything.

Finchlark
08-17-2010, 04:36 PM
This is all I can find, due in December 2010 so I'm not sure if this is the book they refer to, but it's not about animals....

Snowflakes is the eighth title, and second Christmas/winter book, from Jumping Jack Press, and introduces new Jumping Jack creative talent, author Jenn Chushcoff, and illustrator and paper engineer, Yevgeniya Yeretskaya. The new book was again produced under the Art Direction of Up With Paper Creative Director, Monika Brandrup.

Catadmin
08-17-2010, 05:15 PM
Snowflakes was up before the open subs was over with.

I'm pretty sure Monica listed the acceptances on her status links (which you can only see if you're connect to her) or on a specific LI group. But I can't find a discussion group for either JJP or UWP.

Susie
08-17-2010, 05:16 PM
I found the link where the accepted author's stories are listed, Finch, etc. Here it is, http://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?view=&gid=754987&type=member&item=26727589&goback=.gmp_754987.

I believe you have to be a member of the group to access it.

Susie
08-17-2010, 10:21 PM
Gee, that's odd, huh. It's okay for me. You're registered, right? You have to get approval first. It takes about a day for them to approve. I'll be glad to send you the winners names. Just let me know.

icerose
08-18-2010, 02:26 AM
Can you list the names. I'm not even part of linked in and am curious.

Finchlark
08-18-2010, 12:22 PM
Susie, out of interest I'd like to see the list of names. I am a member of Linkedin but need to know the name of the group to be able to join. It would be great if you could send me the list.

Susie
08-19-2010, 05:02 AM
Hey, Finch, I'm sending you a pm w. the writer's names. There were only two chosen.

Susie
08-21-2010, 09:33 PM
ice & Finch I sent you the names via pm. If anyone else wants them, let me know, k.

I'll leave the names here since quite a few of you guys want to know. Here they are.
