View Full Version : The AWers' favorite animated films!

So, after noticing such backlash against the Top 25 animated films from IGN, I thought, why don't we make our own as well? I know, though, animation is not a genre but a medium, but I still believe is fair to use the term, in the same way we say The Best French Films or The Best Rob Schneider Films; so I will try to make this list the most complete as possible!

Well, being born in the early 90's...Nightmare Before Christmas, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Swan Princess, Anastasia, The Fox and the Hound, Bambi..just to name a few :P Awh, childhood....

To this day, my number one favorite animated film is The Little Mermaid. I can't help it. I just love the story and the sound track is great. My second favorite in terms of story line is The Lion King (proudly admit I saw it in the theater 4 times :) )

In terms of quality I have to say that Cars blew me away. The details in the animation of that film are superb.

I'm pretty sure I was physically addicted to the Little Mermaid when I was younger. Withdrawals in the form of fits occurred often :tongue

Gosh-darn it, I took too long making a poll for this (it had over 50 elements) so it couldn't be annexed to the thread. :(

Oh well, I think it's better this way, no poll would please you all.

Personally, Anastasia, along with Prince of Egypt, is some of the most underrated animated featured films ever made.

OH! Prince of Egypt too! (Even though I definitely am not one for biblical ANYTHING) The soundtrack was amazing, as was the story and animation. One of my favorites ever.

I like Monsters Inc, and I think The Emperor's New Groove is very underrated, and I love spirited away, howl's moving castle, and my neighbor totoro. Pretty much anything Ghibli is magical :D

I also liked mulan, and yes, the little mermaid. I would walk out of the room when Simba's dad died in the Lion King though, my sister went through a 'watch it 50 times a day' phase and I would get distraught every single time that bit happened

Well done, Rob!

Aside from Surf's Up, we're on the same page. I'll replace that with The Incredibles.

Also, I really liked A Bug's Life.

I would've worried if we were completely on the same page, Rob. :D

I wouldn't push Surf's Up all that hard, and I did like The Incredibles. Haven't seen A Bug's Life (or Antz)... probably should.

Another one I thought was wonderful, but sank quickly, was Robots.

And I did see Ponyo - I really, truly want those two hours back.

Oh, and I love, for all its silliness -

Yellow Submarine

Pretty much everything Pixar did, especially Finding Nemo, the Incredibles, UP, Ratatouille and Toy Storys.

The Disney classics such as Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Fantasia, Cinderella, Dumbo... and the new favorites such as Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast.

Hayao Miyazaki: Totoro, Spirited Away, Ponyo (I loved his fairytale stuff more than the ghost/monster stuff)

Secret of NIMH, Iron Giant, Shrek (first one), Wallace and Gromit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, How to Train a Dragon, South Park...

Too many to list, really. I love animated films.

Everything Studio Ghibli comes out with is pure genius.... I think Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is my favorite. I also loved The Cat Returns...!

Akira is also a good movie. Gotta love those telekinetic blue children!

Flight of Dragons
YES! One of my all-time favorite movies, animated or not. Nice to meet someone else who's actually heard of it. :D

I see so many of my old favorite animated movies on this thread. The Secret of Nimh, Land Before Time, Fern Gully, All Dogs Go to Heaven, The Black Cauldron, The Fox and the Hound, The Sword in the Stone, The Rescuers . . . *sigh*

I don't have any of my old tapes anymore (except Flight of Dragons, which I actually re-bought after the first tape wore out) and now I REALLY want to watch them all again.

There was another movie I loved, I was thinking it was The Secret Garden, but that's not it, because there's no animated version I can find a listing for. Now I'm really annoyed because I can't figure out what it was.

It was a great show. Since that version of Batman is still popular, DC is actually making a Batman Beyond comic miniseries.

When The Wind Blows is one of the most powerful and moving films I've ever seen. I'd definitely recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to watch it...

Top 10:

How to Train Your Dragon (is my favorite film period)
Battle For Terra
Lilo and Stitch
Finding Nemo
Toy Story 1-3
The Last Unicorn
The Lion King
The Ant Bully
Dinosaur
Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Personally, I think Treasure Planet is the worst adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel. I have nothing against a space version of his story, but flying sailing ships?
