Mine from the other thread was an official proposal!

OK, we were at the bar for after-dinner drinks, after a very nice meal. It was a good time :)

I only said no at that point because we weren't ready yet.

Yep....proposed to on 4 occasions. Turned down one, two fell apart (same guy!), and married the last :D

ME TOO! How funny is that? To this day I'm not totally sure the first was serious, though. The second guy... I'll admit, I occasionally wonder where he is and what he's doing. But it would have been the end of both of us, literally. The third time was my charm too. :)

How rude!

Most I've done is turned down guys who asked me out. Never a proposal.

Without exception, the reaction from 'friends' has been, "But why? He's lovely!"

As if women aren't allowed to say no. Apparently I'm supposed to be grateful that someone wanted to go out with me.

Yes and yes.

I turned down a marriage proposal when I was still in high school.

And yes, my now husband did propose to me in a very official manner and was almost offended when I paused before answering to ask, "Is this for real?".

It was.

And yes, my now husband did propose to me in a very official manner and was almost offended when I paused before answering to ask, "Is this for real?".

It was.I did that exact same thing. But it wasn't my fault. He took me hiking in the Black HIlls at 5 am in the morning, then went up the hill and said he'd be right back. When he came back he was dressed in tin foil (a john deer hat and tin foil does not a crown make) got down on one knee and gave this huge speech.

The first words out of my mouth were. Is this for real? You'd think with such a cute proposal that marriage would have lasted. It did for 13 years.

Oh well, better luck next time right? Oh wait, been there done that, it didn't work either.

Guess it sucks to be me. :D

I've never turned down a marriage proposal. I've only been proposed to officially once, and I ended up breaking that engagement. Thank DOG.

My DH never asked. He just assumed. He was right, of course, but it was not at all romantic. Thankfully, I didn't and don't mind. :D I actually sort of liked it, but only because I was of the same mind, I guess.

Of a very personal nature, but I'll share it here because, oh what the hell.

I proposed to my wife in these same words soon after we met: I said, "If I wasn't being married next month, I'd ask you to marry me instead."

She was shocked and said, "You're getting married? Why didn't you tell me that before?"

That was her way of saying, "Yes," and we've been together for a long, long time. :)

I should have said no to the first hubby too.

Oh and I said yes to the Old Man. He only officially proposed three days before the wedding, so I expect he was fairly sure of the answer :D

Yes... turned down the second one - I was standing behind him holding a cast iron frying pan and debating if I should bash his brains out or just cook him something revolting.

I have been officially proposed to four times, and married twice. I have been most recently married for 31+ years. DH got down on one knee and everything. We giggle about it now - he's only got one knee these days.

I actually accepted one of the others, but we broke it off by mutual consent when we saw each other at the office the following week. We are still very good friends all these years later.

It's good to love.

How about when someone was just a kid?
I was about six and a boy in my class asked me to marry him. I said no, because I couldn't spell his last name. He told me he'd teach me. I still said no. Poor kid--he never asked again.

As an adult--yep. A few times. But only married once and still married. :)

I was proposed to in pre-school by the neighbor kid with a Polly Pocket ring lol. Then the boy moved and I never saw him again. :(

My current boyfriend proposed two years ago. He was 16, and I was 17. I said yes, but we won't we getting married for a while.

You know, I forgot all about this situation. I had a marriage proposal in first grade. Alas, I had to say no because I just wasn't ready for marriage.

Oh well, if we're including those scenarios....

I asked a boy to marry me; he said no.

And then I shrugged.

Thought I would have left that shed a little more heartbroken, but I guess eight year-olds are resilient like that.

When I was 24, my boyfriend proposed to me. It was wonderful and sweet and if he hadn't have tried to use the ring that a lady he cheated on me with had given him, I probably would have married the bum.

Turned him down, broke up...I'm still alive and marginally happy.
