i don't want to have this gift card to macys for 300-400 dollars. there's nothing i want to buy. maybe a purse or two but otherwise i feel like i'm throwing money away just to spend it off.

is there a place where people trade, or buy gift cards? I don't trust craigslist and ebay is iffy.

i have more wedding gifts to return and add to the card... so it can sit on my refrigerator.

suggestions?

Sounds like a good opportunity to re-gift.

It would make a lovely graduation, wedding, birthday, etc. gift.

Looks like they are having a pretty good bedding sale online only right now. You sure you don't need an extra comforter or two or some sheets or something? Even if you keep them in the packaging for awhile, I would think there are some things it wouldn't hurt to have extra of.

You might consider buying durable goods and just storing them away. Sheets, blankets, towels, dishes, glassware, silverware--the stuff that's complete sets in good condition now will not stay that way.

Since it's wedding gifts, this use makes it seem for like it's both of you benefiting, and in the long-term as well.

Other possible uses include regifting (excellent idea if you have such an occasion coming up), or donating it to a charity and taking the tax write-off. Those who provide new homes for those burned out or battered, for instance, could make excellent use of that card.

Maryn, hoping this helps even if it doesn't provide the info you asked about, selling/trading it

You can never have too much sleep wear or too many pairs of slippers. Ever.

You could also put it away and spend it closer to Christmas. Use it to buy gifts. Or if Macy's allows you to buy gift cards with gift cards, you can give it away that way.

But I totally hear you about not wanting to spend the gift card just to spend it. I have seen people selling gift cards on eBay for less than their actual value. No idea if there's a trading site for such a thing, though.

Personally, I'd find some way to get that in solid currency, and then buy me some shoes.

Some expensive shoes.

You can buy something and then return it for cash. I'm sure you could find a $300 watch at Macys - just ask if you can return it for a refund rather than credit. You probably can. That's what I'd do, since I like money but hate stuff. Although, that's probably wrong according to some retail code of ethics.

Whatever you decide, don't wait too long to make a move.

I heard or read somewhere that some gift cards lose their value and/or expire very quickly now. ;)

maybe quality bedding and gifts are the way to go.
