.. or at least I think it was.

It was about:

* Human sized alien insects (which looked just like praying mantises)
* In human 'flesh' suits
* Infiltrating a city (replacing the mayor, etc)

The heroes were:
* A city archaeologist ?
* An entomologist who was working as a pest exterminator
* A retired astronaut ?
* A Vietnam vet who always carried a live hand grenade for no reason ?

Other bizarre scenes included the archaeologist's assistant falling down a crack that suddenly appeared in the middle of the city. The mayor insists that the crack be instantly filled with concrete. Nobody seemed bothered.

Despite the stupidity and bizarrely low budget, it actually had a good zero G scene in space (for no apparent reason) in the first few minutes.

It was such a different level of production value to the rest of the film (and no real connection) that I suspect they bought footage from an unrelated failed film.

Any clues? If someone could point me to the good zero G scenes on you-tube I'd be especially grateful ...

I kinda hate to say it but it sounds like any number of movies from SyFy :roll: I don't remember one specifically with mantis types though...

Instant cult classic! I want to know, too.

This sounds like what you are looking from,

From wikipedia...

Alien Apocalypse...

Astronaut and Osteopath, Dr. Ivan Hood (Bruce Campbell) and his companion Kelly (Renee O'Connor) return from their 40-year-long mission in space to find the planet taken over by locust-like aliens. Now, Dr. Hood must go up into the Cascade Mountains and find the President, who allegedly has an army of escaped slaves who will rebel against the alien scourge. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen and the reluctant Dr. Hood has to spark the rebellion himself (and is later joined by the president).

Nope - Alien Apocalypse isn't it.

It's kind of sad that I don't have any evidence that it was a Sy-Fy original - I just assumed it was because it was really bad quality and cheaply made with a tiny bit of a sci-fi theme.

I'm kinda glad they changed their name.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator? :e2teeth:

Maybe they should change their name again from "SyFy" to "ShitFy".

Personally, I loved Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, with Debbie Gibson.

I especially liked...

SPOILER!!!

the part where the shark jumps out of the water and chomps down on a jet! So ridiculous, you gotta love it.

Between there and there
Alien Apocalypse is possibly the worst Bruce Campbell movie of all time, which is saying something.

I was flipping through the channels the other night at 1am...

And I saw an Asylum film on the SyFy channel.

I couldn't believe it. The absolute worst film studio on the planet and their film was on the SyFy channel.

Talk about losing all respect...

Brillig in the slithy toves...
I just saw this and thought of this thread. I'm sure it will be fantastic.

http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2010/06/24/debbie-gibson-and-tiffany-to-appear-in-syfy-film/

OMG... I wish this was a hoax:

"Mega Python vs. Gatoroid" will feature Gibson as a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and releases them into the Everglades - where they then morph into super-sized menaces - while Tiffany will portray an over-enthusiastic park ranger out to save endangered alligators

Why don't they just save time and call it "Trainwreck Theater"?

Am I the only one cringing at the idea that Tiffany might start shouting "Crikey!" for no apparent reason.
