The man, using the name Uri Brodsky, is suspected of working for Mossad in Germany and helping to issue a fake German passport to a member of the Mossad operation that allegedly killed Hamas agent Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January, a spokesman for the German federal prosecutor's office told The Associated Press.

Here's the rest of the story...

Just to clarify, the guy was arrested in Poland, but it's the Germans who want him.

So, should this guy have been arrested?

I am thinking that issuing fake passports is a crime, so yes. If the government has permission to use fake passports from the country involved that would be different, but forgery is forgery.

Yes because I actually think assassination is more reprehensible than "faking a passport. . . . "

As long as all the necessary international warrants were in place the Polish polis (heehee :D) were pretty much obliged to arrest him.

Agree.

But imo, the spokesperson cited in the story was absolutely wrong to mention the alleged connection to Mossad. It's enough to say that the person was wanted for his role in forging German passports. If other things can be proven, fine. But as given--if the spokeperson actually said what was reported--it looks wrong, imo.

Actually, there is a Jewish community in Poland today, and the relations between Israel and Poland are excellent (they are with most of the former Soviet block). Germany is easily the most reliable Israeli ally in Western Europe (maybe in Europe in general). History is not without its ironies.
