View Full Version : Blue Mountain Christmas Call

06-08-2010, 09:02 PM
Hi Everyone,

Just saw a call from the folks at Blue Mountain for Christmas submissions. The deadline is July 15th.

To submit your work, send to editorial@sps.com (editorial@sps.com)

It's worth a shot, right?

Reece :welcome:

Thanks for the date.

I have their old guidelines and the Christmas & General Holiday deadline isn't until August 13.

I found Blue Mt. Arts in the 2010 Writers Market Guide, but it doesn't list a website. Do they have one?

Has anyone submitted to them before? I'm interested, but this is a new ballgame for me. Any insight would be great.

Yes, I have. They currently have one of my verses in market review, a process that can take up to 2 years to complete. At the end of it, there is no guarantee your work will be purchased. As a result, I don't sub to them that often...

This might be a stupid question, but when you submitted to this company did you include many verses in the same submission?

That seems logical to me b/c greeting card verses aren't very long. After you submitted how long before they contacted you?

Last question...I went to the site and browsed some of their cards. They don't seem to really have a cookie cutter format. Am I right about that or is there some sort of unwritten process/format I should follow?

Thanks to anyone that can answer these questions.

When I submitted to BM, I sent about 10 verses via email at any one time. An automatic message from BM is sent confirming they've received your work. If they are interested, a contract is sent to you via snail mail. This allows them to produce a card containing your verse to test the market. Unfortunately this process is lengthy. Perhaps that's why, if successful, the pay is $300 per verse and increases subject to how many verses they have bought from you....It's been about 9 mths since I signed my contract and I'm still waiting for the first stage result of the market review - after @10 mths they update you on the performance of your verse.

Does Blue Moutain Arts do any Halloween or Thanksgiving cards?

07-17-2010, 04:59 PM
I'm pretty sure a "no" on Halloween. Thanksgiving I haven't seen any lines of. It would be a pretty narrow market on both of these seasonals, so I would advise to focus on universal theme and major seasonal (Christmas, Easter, Father's Day, Mother's Day, Valentine's) - these would be bigger sellers.

I'll be old and gray by the time I hear from BMA. Oh, no wait a minute I'm already old and gray:)

Lol, Jeff! I agree, but I'm submitting anyway. Oh, wait. I'm already old but not gray! Blondes do have more fun! :)

Well...I received an envelope in the mail today from BMA advising me that they're including six of my Christmas poems in an upcoming market review! Yay! :snoopy:

That's great Maggie! Hopefully one or more will come to fruition in a sale. I should be hearing back on my Xmas poems as well, seeing you've just heard back on yours. Hmmmm....must check the mailbox. :)
