I'm looking for some character names for a story set in the early 1700's in Austria (specifically, the German Tyrol region in the alps between Italy and Austria). Can someone provide me with some suggestions, or point me to a good research site?

Also, I'm curious what religion would be most prevalent in the region.
Thanks!

My Austrian ancestors of the time period had a lot of Saints' names, and they were Protestant. I would think the Italy factor would add even more liklihood that a Saint's name would make sense. Chances are yours would be Catholic, but look that up, for sure.

At least 5 versions of Katherine are required at every 18th c gathering of Austrians, judging by my geneological research ;) ;)

you pop down to the Genres Historical message board there's a sticky called Resources by Era.

In it there is a section on naming resources one of which deals with European names.
